damn these look phat but i wouldn't pay more than 80 bucks for that. 4 gigs is nothing. i'd need like 8-10 of these to fit all my songs. i'd rather buy a 40 gig iPod and put it on that

Lets compare...

Mini iPod
$250 (3.6 ounces) 4GB

Regular iPod
$299 (5.6 ounces) 15 GB

Looks like a ripoff to me  :o

Not for a little while because rumour has it the HDD tech they are using is brand new by some company I had never heard of, but give em time and you might be able to.

Maybe when the technology is a bit older the current 'big' ipods will be available small from Apple as well !

just to let you guys know the ipod mini is exactly the size of a business card if you didnt know that shit is tiny and look at all the flash players out there a 256 flash player runs you close to 200 bucks.......so i mean think about it 256mb or 4000mb same kinda shit but i mean its a good idea for the people on the go just made that shit smaller....but yeah i agree personally i would rather get a bigger ipod right now until they get bigger hard drives on the minis

4 gig? for 80 bucks? homie you need to check your mp3 player prices...as most of you knwo i work at radio shack...the highest mp3 player we even sell is 128 mb and they run anywhere from 99.99 to 129.99...if you find a 4 gig mp3 player for 80 bucks somewhere you better tell me where lol.

Amazing
I bought this MP3 player yesterday and it is totally AMAZING!!! The sound is wicked and it is so easy to download. The price is also very!! good for a 20GB mp3 player. My friend has an iPod and this is just as good as his even he admitted it. The only downfall is that it is a little bulky but that is overruled by ALL the features

Great Value MP3 Player. Many Features!
I've had my Gmini 120 for a few weeks now. I am very pleased with the unit. Some say that the buttons need to be pressed hard, and that is true, but that's good. That way, you don't inadvertently press buttons. I don't know why some say the battery life is terrible at only 3-4 hours. I don't know what they're doing wrong, but I've gotten 11 hours of non-stop play and they only advertise a max. of 10 hours!

The unit is small enough for me, but I have to admit it is a little heavier than I had expected (but that's not a big deal to me). I have already installed the Audio/Voice Recorder Plug-In for the unit, and it works great. I ordered the FM Radio & Remote Control, too, but I haven't received that yet.

I love the fact that it has a CompactFlash portbuilt in. Sure, you have to purchase a Plug-In for about $30 to unlock it, but what other MP3 Player do you know of that has something like that? I don't know of any! I know you can buy an add-on for the iPod (for an extra $100) that you connect to the iPod, but that's not as convenient as having it built right in (and it's less expensive). Great for times when you run out of space on your digital camera's memory card when you're on vacation. Just dump the pics right to your Gmini and erase your camera'smemory card! Great!!!!

The price is great, too. Roughly $200 or so right now.

The unit is very easy to use, too. Drag 'n Drop, Cut 'n Paste. If you can use your Windows Explorer, you already know how to put files in your Gmini.

Sound quality is great, too. You have a built in 5-band EQ to work with. It has presets and you can customize it yourself. The music comes through the headphones very loud, also (that is, if you want it to... there is a volume setting from 0-99).

To me, the GUI is very easy tonavigate. I don't know why anyone would have a problem with it.

Anyway... If you're contemplating whether or not you should get one... Get One! You won't regret it!

Experience the next generation of MP3!!
Years ago, I bought a minidisc player b/c the MP3 players never had enough memory, but that is no longer a problem. The Gmini is very cool, but there are some obvious flaws, nothing serious though. Battery life is good, charge is until its full, then let it die,and repeat a few times to develope fullest battery potential. It just works, don't know why.Downloading my one of my jukebox folders took 45 mins, but it was 1700 songs, and I still have tons of room.Durability is good, but there is no lock for buttons, or no waterproofing, about same size as ipod, but way cheaper.Buttons take a quick second to respond, but its a 20g computer in the palm of your hand, keep hitting the buttons, and response will take longer, plus certain functions take longer than others. All n all, don't be afraid to buy one.Functionality is awesome!Know what your buying it for though, not a workout mp3,works good walking,or for your car's tapeplayer, Sound is good, and loud. I love having 8 gigs (1700 songs) of music, and I still have 12 more gigs!! Transfer was so easy, I couldn't figure it out for a moment, seriously The G rules!!

An Excellent iPod Alternative for Smart Buyers
I just purchased this player from Circuit City a couple days ago, and I'm confident that I made the right choice. THis player is very inexpensive: $220 with a $20 rebate for a 20GB player is unbeatable. I've done a lot of research and this is where I ended up. Don't be fooled by the iPod--sure, it may look sexy and have tons of features, but when I tried out the interface it was so basic that it seems Apple idiot-ized it for the average fool. Plus, price factors in. A 20GB iPod is $400...this player has 20GB but it's only $200 in the end. Now...which would you choose?

The interface is a breeze. It is based more like Windows Explorer, which uses folders and file trees, making navigation easy as pie. Even with only 8 buttons, it is incredibly simple to navigate through the player, since each button serves as a different fucntion when you are using a different feature. The player looks stylish and fits easily in my open palm. It's about the same height as the iPod, but a little thicker and heavier, but I was surprised to see how little 8 ounces feels like! You won't notice a difference between holding this and an iPod. The USB2.0 interface is plenty for transferring music files. I transferred about 500 megs of music in about 45 seconds. ForgetFireWire, USB2.0 is more common, and if you don't have it, much more affordable to get (a 2-port USB2.0 card is around $15-20, while a 2-Port Firewire card is about $30-50). As if that weren't enough, the player is even plug and play! Just plug it into your USB port and Windows will recognize it within a couple seconds and create a new drive letter, so your player functions just like an extra drive. Just drag and drop to the player and you're set! Firmware upgrading is also easy. I did an upgrade when I first plugged in the player. Just download and unzip the OS upgrade, plug in the Gmini, and drag the OS file to the root folder of the player, disconnect the player and it will automatically update the firmware. How easy is that?

The only downsides that I can find about this player is that the batteries seem to run out rather quickly, and the idea behind the plugins. The batteries should last 10 hours, but it's really more like 5-6 hours, which is still enough, and there is no way to remove the batteries without opening the case, which requires a special screw driver and voids the warranty. The plugins idea IMO is a marketing trick to leech more money out of you. What's ridiculous is that even though the player has a compact flash reader and amic, as well as a line-in port, you need to purchase and download a $30 plugin for the flash reader, and a $20 plugin for the mic and line-in. This is ridiculous. Forcing people to pay for features that are already built in is unfair. A better use would be for add-on software, which is also available.

But all in all, the Gmini has plenty of features and an easy interface that will please any tech dummie or geek alike (I'm proud to be more on the geeky side). The built-in compact flash reader, mic and line-in ports are reason enough to get this player, although you still have to get a plugin to activate them. The included MusicMatch software isn't something I particularly liked, so I got Mp3 tag to edit my ID3 tags, and DioneSS to create my own playlists, since it's easier to do that on the computer.(Both programs are freeware). The included earphones are uncomfortable, and I would recommend getting a better, more comfortable pair.

All in all, if you're on a tight budget and want a plug-and-play, easy to use, good-looking and small player with a lot of space, the Gmini is for you! I'm sure to enjoy this player for several years, but by then there will be smaller, better players. --I will post an update in a few months on the player's performance.

Nice MP3 player when plugged in.
This player is very nice when its plugged in and not running off its internal battery. The battery indicator is far from accurate. The internal battery last about 3-5 hrs, after that the player functionality begins to decrease. This is the perfect MP3 player if you plan to play it at home or the office, but it is not for exercising or long play on its internal battery. The sound quality is excellent and its software is very simple and easy to use. Not to mention, its 20 GB, so it will hold all of your music or double as a back-up hard drive to your PC. Overall this is a great player for the money.

Don't Buy The Archos Gmini 120 Mp3 Player!!!
Take my advice don’t buy the Archos Gmini 120. I’m vary savvy with electronics and I can tell you that I will never buy another product from Archos in the future. The Gmini 120 looks cool the GUI interface is a good idea but they simply don't work. I went through three Archos Gmini's in the span of one week. I kept getting another one figuring that I the one I got must have been a lemon, but they were all lemons from a lemon company. Each one had a different problem. The first one I had could not be recognized by either of my two home computers when it was connected via the USB cable. The second worked when connected through the USB and I was able to download my music to it, but only work for all of three days. It was running good till the backlit screen slowly started to disintegrate to the point where you could not see anything at all and rendered the device totally useless. And the third one worked for less than a day. Out of the box I experienced difficulty navigating with the buttons. After I had downloaded all my music (again) the buttons would lock, causing it to keep scrolling and was unable to use it. When you have problem with your Archos Gmini 120 (and you will) it's difficult to get support. The Archos trouble shooting web site is not vary helpful, and if you want to call to talk with someone about the problems your having you will have to pay for the phone call because the don't have a 1-800 #. Hands down the worst electronic product I have ever purchased. Maybe you will have better luck. I'm spending the extra money on a better-established company and going with the i-pod.

Archos GMINI
PROS: COST, SPACE, PLUGIN OPTION, DESIGN, COMPACT FLASH PORT, FAST TRANSFER

CONS: HEAVY, POOR UI DESIGN, POOR BUTTON DESIGN, COSTLY ADD ON OPTIONS, SLOW OPERATION, BATTERY POWER, NO REMOTE, CRAPPY EAR BUDS

I returned my unit because the UI was poorly designed. It was very difficult to navigate and scroll through songs. The buttons were not sensitive and I always had to press the cursor at least twice in order to select something. The battery life was also extremely short. When I first recieived my unitI charged it for 42 hours. Upon operation on a full charge, the unit said I only had 3/4 power left after about 5 minutues of use. Although the price might be right, you are certainly sacrificing the easy navigation of an IPOD. BITE THE BULLET AND PAY A HUNDRED EXTRA BUCKS FOR AN IPOD.

gmini 120 is great
I recently got the gmini and it is great overall. Music downloads to it very fast (less than 1 sec a song). It's sound quality is great. The backlight is nice. The only downfalls I can see is the battery life is not as long as they say, and if you want to get other optional features for it you have to pay a lot. Otherwise it is great, and you really can't beat it for the price and amount of features and quality.

I think these MP3 players are silly. Why not just spend 25 bucks for a portable CD player that plays mp3 cds? You could spend 60 bucks for a spindle of CD's, a portable cd player, and a case logic.

Because a cd only holds 15 tracks.

mp3 CDs ahhh ok...you still gotta deal with burning/skipping CDs.

Probably a big mess listening to certain tracks when you want to.

And when a new tracks comes out what do you do? Reburn the CD.
