Title: DJ Quik - Safe N Sound
Post by: That_Cracka_J on May 18, 2002, 05:12:07 PM
DJ Quik – Safe N Sound

1. Street level entrance…Not a flow, just Quik talking.  Still a nice beat.  3.5/5
2. Get at me…Tight ass beat.  The trumpets before each verse is a nice touch.  Quik spits some hard lyrics.  4/5
3. Diggin’ U out…Smooth, mellow beat.  Dope flow.  4/5
4. Safe N sound…Bomb ass beat.  A song basically about comin’ up and hustlin’.  Tight hook.  5/5
5. Somethin’ 4 tha mood…Another funky beat.  A good west coast beat with a flute in the background.  Only Quik can make that sound right.  4/5
6. Don’t eat it!…interlude
7. Can I eat it?…Sampled beat from Too Short’s ‘Don’t fight the feeling’.  Quik makes it come alive with his unique lyrics.  3.5/5
8. Itz your fantasy…Quik raps nicely to the R&B flavored track.  Dionne Knighton does a great job on the chorus.  3.5/5
9. Tha ho in you…Cool laidback song.  3.5/5
10.   Dollaz & sense…Arguably the best diss song.  Production is A+ and Quik tears MC Eiht up on the track.  5/5
11.   Let you have it…Tight flow, trunk rattlin’ beat.  4/5
12.   Summer breeze…A reminiscing song about childhood to adulthood.  Smooth ass production.  5/5
13.   Quik’s groove III…instrumental
14.   Sucka free…Quik is not featured on this short song, but the production is still on point.  3.5/5
15.   Keep the P in it…Decent beat.  A lotta guest artists on the song that just don’t seem to get the job done though.  3/5
16.   Hoorah 4 tha funk…outro
17.   Bonus track (Tangueray)…This song should have been towards the beginning of the CD.  Quality production and Quik flows his ass off.  5/5

OVERALL…8/10

I think this is Quik’s best album.  Quality production throughout.  All beats have that extra “added” touch by Quik to make it that much better.  Album has a few classic tracks on it, but I could do without the ‘Quik’s groove’s.  Otherwise, a very solid album.

Nice review. I haven't heard th ewhole album myself, just a few songs. All I hear from it is positive things the only problem is that it's very hard to find in stores.

I would buy it off the net but when you don't have a credit card and your parents have bad credit then it's a problem.

Where do you guys live at??????      I always see Safe and Sound in stores( I live in Southern Cali). Damn Iam glad cause here in So. Cal you find lots of rare cd's and stuff.

Anyway this cd has a Death Row feel to it cause of course, Suge Knight was exec. producer of it. It was his most gangsta album and DJ Quik even wishes he never made it. We will never see this Quik again so snatch it up if you see it anywhere.
This one is classic!!!!!!!

Definitely...I remember Quik saying in an interview that 'Safe N Sound' was he least favorite album and he wishes he never made it.  That's a shame, because that is when he was at his best.

Damn I lost my Safe + Sound album :'(. I think I'm goin' to buy a new copy tommorow. This album is definitely a West Coast classic and Quik's best album. The production was amazing and Quik was focused when he did this album. He had one of the best diss tracks ever and the title track is one of the best songs released from the West Coast no doubt. It gets a 5/5 from me.

Great album although I think "Rhythm-Al-Ism" is his best work to date. "Summer Breeze" is off the hook!
