i love those threads like: watcha bumpin right now etc...
i know abou 90% of the shit posted in those threads..
but i always try to find out what the other 10% are
b/c in most cases i like them
that way i can get to know new hot artists etc.
and a internet-radio-show would be awesome, bc if id host a show id do it the same way
classic shit and some new unknown shit, well, to some its known, to some a few tracks will be unknown...
only thing needed is: bandwidth i guess :(

Yeah thats what i mean but you cant have the tracks everyone has already heard a million times, but if they were to play their favorite tracks by artists who wernt as big as dre & snoop then people minds would be opened more. I mean fair enough Still DRE is your all time favorite track but if every DJ plays it cos its popular its gonna get repetative & no one is gonna download it, they will think "i might as well just bump 2001 again" esp for 56k users.

but from my point of view it wouldnt make sense to add just another internet radio station... there are plenty of
we have to think carful why our radio station or how our radio station can be different from others..
a radio station from westcoast fans TO westcoast fans...
so doesnt make much sense to play the charts... ::)
but as i said: the problem would be the traffic
as far as i know: DJ -> server
server -> listeners
depending on the quality we send, it would cause much traffic
i used to listen to internet radio for a while, and i think i never listened to anything under 96kps, b/c it sounded shitty
128kps was way better
96kps * 30 listener slots = about 3000kb/s
where do we get such a server from? who pays?? etc...

yeah west coast of course.. when i meant was what copkilla was saying, that you shouldnt exclude stuff like "still dre" or whatever...
everyone has their own taste in this shit.. if one guy plays dre he plays dre, if another plays bay stuff, then he plays bay..
gotta appeal to everyone.. people who dont know west coast stuff well might recognise stuff thats been popular and be like "what did u play after still dre.. i like that one"... bamm we got em!
no hating, freedom for each dj to play whatever they like within the west coast sphere.. could have a 'outbound' show too for east/south stuff.. keep things moving..
yeah the problem is the trafffic.. but i think we wouldnt have too many listeners to begin with...
i'm sayin that if someone puts in the work, then i'll promote it here, and on dubcnn and maybe make a new subforum for talk about it..

i sometimes run my own radio through shoutcast but the problem is that i only have dsl so it can only support 3-4 people and then buffer underuns start

thats why we need a server to make it available to more ppl
i only have DSL with 16kbs upload
that should be enough for a upstream to a server
listeners should connect to that server, so that there wont be no problems for the DJ
b/c if the dj-line is to small and a lotta ppl try to connect the line gets interuppted, laggy, and you cant listen to it
that would be fucked up, b/c if this happens once or twice, ppl will loose interest on that radio show
i might be able to put some work in that whole thing,
but right now the semester is over - im studying
and in the next 3 months im having my final exams for that semester :(
i wont be able to do much :'(
but besides that this might be a nice project ;D

so we're back to the fact that if one of us (assuming we have dsl/cable) hosts it we can only handle 4 listeners.. so we need a fast server :(

I Ran "HotBox Radio" For About 2 And A Half Years and we were one of the top listened to shows on Shoucast & mycaster.com......While broadcasting there, we never had server problems, there are a lot of people who will run a server for you for about $10 (U.S.D) Try www.audiorealm.com (They hosted us, and they are good at promoting your station as well)...but at the P2P thing, i dont think you will get as much exposure as you would through Shoutcast or live365.com (also, live365.com hosts and gets all the legal stuff outta the way)
Now to the legal stuff, you need to get license agreements from BMI & ASCAP, because those publishing houses will be on your ass in a heartbeat, they have a team that searches out internet broadcasters and fines them or takes them off the air....its not really that expensive, only $20 bucks a year for each (that was 3 years ago, i dont know if the price went up, but i heard that it skyrocketed, you might want to check in on that).....

Just get the license agreements out of the way, everything else is easy to set up and do,....And i might suggest getting Sam2 to broadcast, its what they use at professional radio stations, you can find that at http://www.spacialaudio.com/products/sam2/ (its Shoutcast compatable!)

I have a real good Radio Voice. I would be intrested in runnin' a segment that plays Underground Shit from around the country. Ya should have at least one segment that shys away from West Coast.

what i was thinkin of doing if this is launched properly is
1) add a radio station thread to the main forum here and if it grows make a sub forum for it..
2) add a advert for it in the random section at the top of the forum where it says "connected site links back soon" right now
3) run a story on dubcnn about it
for now keep it in here.. if p2p is the way i can run a 'permanent node' on my server pc at home
it'll be amazing if we can do it right... get enough people for a 24/7 coverage :)

and stream it when your slot comes up.. ya could stream the same show in several slots until you make a new one

I Didnt Know You Wanted To Run It Like That, I Thought This Was Going To Be Its Own Thing, Just Affiliated With Dubcc & Dubcnn....Kinda Like Adding it to your "Rolling On Dubs" Network thing.....But Your Way Sounds Dope, But A Little Confusing.....With so many people Hosting A Show, Their Would Be Other Stations Broadcasting off one server, therefore if you were to put a link to the stream, it wouldnt work because there would be a different server code to every broadcaster...... iz this the same with the p2p? or am i way off?.....This P2p thing is still new to me and im playin with it and still aint gettin some of it, ....the peercast just aint workin for me for some reason but the streamer one is

Couldn't everybody who makes a show just send it to the same server? Like, for example, DJ's record their shows in MP3, send them to some guy who manages the server, and all the shows would be broadcast from the same place. I dunno if that would work, I'm pretty lousy at the technical stuff. That way would make sense to me though.
EDIT: Forgot to mention - a dope idea, this radio business!

ok.. well the experience i;ve had in the past is with a centrally located server people stream to.
i definitely meant that all thepeople stream over one 'station' not with multiple ones..
other stations i've seen do this before have people 'swap' who is feeding the stream to the server when their time slot comes up.
look into it more and i';m sure people'll be up for testing it.. prob a good idea for a lil group to mess and see how things plug together :)
i'd love to know if i can listen to it where i'm sat behind this firewall at work

i can have a radio set up in a few days , i'll set my system up as its own server, and in order to increase bandwidth i'll just get relays which means if a few people can put their computers up as well it would relay the information thru all the computers set up so the bandwidth would be perfect and itwouldnt slow your internet down much or anything , so if anyones willing to put their computer up let me know and i'll give you the info you need and we'll get this shit goin

I've been looking at some shit and have come to the conclusion that for it to be successful, it'd need to be non-proprietary...
With Live 365, you gotta DL their player. With that audio realm, you gotta pay to listen. Shoutcast seems like the way to go, but the costs get REAL high if you want decent quality with a lot of listeners.

Anybody know if there is a shoutcast host that takes care of all the BMI and ASCAP licesning fee's?
Shoutcast seems like the way to go, but I dunno if there is a host out there that takes care of the fee's like radio 365 does.

and my connection is always going with 100 k upload speed so that;ll be more than enough

perhaps get people to record shows on their PCs first then upload the .mp3. would give you an idea of how many people are into it, then you could probably judge what sort of bandwidth & shit you're gonna need
