Ive been thinkin bout gettin one,now that ive saved up enough money
im jus wonderin if ne of u guyz got one n what ur opinion of it is n if u recommend it
also is there ne other mp3players that hold as much as an ipod for a cheaper price?

Buy one of those cassette tape adapter things that allows you to play you CD player int he car, and instead use the muthafucka on your iPod. Shiiiiiiii I used to play gameboy with the stereo system in my car thanks to that adapter lol. It'll only cost you $20 too.

you dont have to get an ipod installed.
For 50$, you buy an adapter that transmits your ipod songs through the FM frequency. So you could tune to 88.1 and listen to your ipod.

i have an ipod. and im extremely into music, and this is probably one of the best things ever to come out for it. you straight up have access to your entire music library wherever you go. i have the FM itrip thing too, and also a cassette adaptor. i use the FM itrip on my home stereo, and also if i ever go out to a BBQ or like a friends house, cos its pretty much adaptable anywhere. it works real good when its in a stationary position, like if its stuck inside the dock, but doesnt work as well when its constantly being moved around.... in the car, i prefer to use the cassette adaptor. the Fm itrip relies on broadcasting through dead radio frequencies.. and when you're in the car driving around, your reception of different frequencies change as you drive through different areas, so its sometimes pretty unreliable, especially during long car rides, you will probably have to adjust the ipod to a dead frequency several times during the trip. and since it plays through the FM radio, it doesnt give you as clear of a sound. the cassette adaptor isnt like cd quality either, but i think its a lot clearer than the FM radio. hope that helps... yeah and if i were you, i wouldnt purchase expensive electronics through ebay. its best to just go to a store or some shit. or order through the apple site. if youre a student i think you can get a good discount.

You should get an Ipod, if:
* You're concerned about being "trendy", and want to show off your player.
You should not get an Ipod, because:
* There's several other players who have the same or bigger harddrive capacity, about the same size, and up to twice the battery capacity.
Size, sound quality and ease of use is about the same in most newer mp3-players.
The Ipod looks fresher than most of the others, (except the newest Creative player), but I'd rather buy a player with twice the battery capacity, and bigger harddrive at the same prize. The browse system is equally simple with the two newest versions of Zen & Ipod.
Even the old version of Creative Zen won a whole gang of tests against Ipod, and 4th gen Ipod lost to the newest Creative Zen in the tests I've seen. Zen can play up to 24 hours without recharge, Ipod up to 12 hours..

The Creative Zen Touch looks a little bit fresher to me.. the Ipod look might be clean, but slightly boring..

I Wish I Had An MP3 PLAYER LIKE AN IPOD, im down to converting all my mp3s to 56kbps into my NOKIA 3300 so i could listen to at least 90 songs and have some variety, if i wanted CD quality i would upload only 30 songs or so....damn, but at least i could listen to music and all i need to do is plug it into my computer and download tracks and im done...not really hard, ,...

I don't know where you are at, but if you got a Costco nearby, go there. I just saw the 40 gig iPod for $379.99 (that's $20 buck off the regular price). Also, if you are a student, then roll on over to any Apple store (online as well) and ask for the student discount... I think you get something like $30 buck of the 40 gig ipod.
Definitely pick up the iPod... nothing out there beats it.

My pops bought me the 40gb iPod when i graduated college last december. And let me tell you, the iPod is 10x better than i had even anticipated. I have the Belkin adaptor that everyone is talking about, where you plug it into the ipod, and it transmits to your fm radio on 1 of 4 frequencies. My complaints on that are basically what they all said. If you use it on long trips, you'll have to change frequencies, and if the ipod slides around a lot, your quality will lack. The interface on the ipod is the best, and i've even used itunes to buy songs, and its so damn easy once you buy the song, it transfers to your ipod instanly (with firewire anyway). I probably have 500 cd's and i can't wait for the day that i don't have to drag them everywhere. I only have about 100 on the ipod right now, so i still have work to do, but i can't tell you how convenient its is to have literally 1000's of songs stuffed into that little thing and listen to them whenever I want. I use it when i drive, when i work out, when i'm just chillin. I hook it up to my home stereo and my car. I really am getting away from cd's. While it is expensive, if you are a music fiend, you'll wonder how you used to go places but made sure you drug all your cd's with you. I highly recommend it. Peace

I agree with you that there are players out there with a longer battery life or higher capacity, but they got nothing on the Apple design. Apple always comes straight with nicely designed products. I think that is a hugely important part of any product. Plus combined with the ease and simplicity (not to be confused with lacking features) of iTunes... you have a nice combination to enjoy your music.

I would not get the 3rd Gen iPod. If you can cough up another 50 bucks... pick up the $300 4th Gen iPod instead of the mini. Here's why:
1. iPod mini is $250 for 4 gigs. You get 16 extrag gigs with 50 bucks more for the 20 gig ipod.
2. Don't buy the old 3rd Gen iPod. The click wheel on the 4th Gen iPod is a hundred times better than the buttons on the 3rd Gen iPod. Like I mentioned before... I bought a 1st Gen iPod and that first design was and still is the shit. The 4th Gen iPod has returned to it OG design with the wheel, but it has been perfected (grey color, "click wheel" (the 1st and 2nd gen iPods had a "scroll wheel" with buttons right next to the wheel... the 3rd gen iPod retained the wheel, but placed the buttons on top, right underneath the screen... the current 4th gen iPod has a "click wheel" which functions as both as the buttons and the wheel)
I would buy the 20 gig 4th gen iPod if you have the cash.

I think they ask you for something more than your student ID... like a transcript or current class schedule... but they do offer the student discount at the retail Apple stores.

I currently live in Boston, Massachusetts... New Hampshire is really close by (about an hour drive)... NH doesn't have any sales tax :) ... so if I need to make an expensive purchase, I drive up there and save me some money.
I saved myself some extra cash this way when I bought my current iPod.
Anyway... sorry if you don't live near a state with a lesser sales tax... but if you do, make sure to check it out.

With 82% of the market, Apple must have done some serious campaigning to brainwash Americans.
Because Ipod sure as hell isn't a better product than e.g. the new Creative Zen. (Unless design means everything to you)

I bought my ipod today
anyone know how to change song names on itunes easier than clicking on Get Info and changing it cause that shit would take forever.
You can change the name by simply clicking on the current track name and changing the text (the same way you would change the name of a file or folder in Windows). You can do this with any other field.
You can also change multiple items at the same time. For example if you want to change or correct the album name all the album tracks at the same time. Simple highlight all the tracks you want to apply the change to and then go to "Get Info"... there you can make the changes.
Let me know if you need any more help or this don't make sense.

Might get one, but I dun really like the design. I've seen other mp3 players that look nicer, but dun have the same features as the IPOD. The price is abit steep too, might wait 'til next year. Would come in handy in the car.

aight, all this talk of mp3 players made me decide to put $120 away from this paycheck then use all but 80 from the next to get a ipod or hopefully if they have it it stock when i go to futureshop a Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 30GB shits like $30 more and it's not from apple. plus I can't survive with 8 hours of battery life, I'd go through that just at work, not counting 30 minutes getting there and the hour it takes to get back. I just really fucking hope they got that shit in stock when I go next thursday cause I'm coming out with an mp3 player, and I'm not gonna be too happy if it's an apple one.

also theres a new Creative Zen Micro which is 5GBs and looks pretty tight check out www.creative.com to see it, theres no price on it or when it comes out tho >:(

Problem is that future shop doesn't have that zen micro. I'd rather not get an ipod but I need something smaller then the creative one that future shop has. So I'm getting an ipod unless they're out of stock. Anyone go to that ipod lounge site, I went and read about the forum and holy fuck, I hate apple users so much.

When i mention design i also think about how the design affects the usability of the product, the whole ergonomics of the product... cuz at the end, what good is a product that is cheap (price), tiny (size), and huge capacity, but you struggle when using it because the controls aren't well placed, or it's hard to find what you looking for....

Well, from the Archos pictures, it looks pretty damn easy to handle/control, 2 buttons and 1 wheel.. seems simple as shit to me.

If anything, it looks even simpler to use than Ipod, can't say it looks hard at all. (Personally I dislike over-simplified products)
As for the design, it looks kinda cheap, but still simple and clean, just like Ipod. (Though Ipod looks a bit more expensive, which it is)
And of course, 20GB vs. 4GB, and $100 cheaper.. it's a wrap.

i don't have another 50 if I want to be able to smoke this upcoming week, and being that I need to work I gotta buy some bud. I don't need that much space anyways. After having a 128mb player for quite some time you know how to pick songs you like and can listen too.
And I spent about the last 2 hours looking at alternatives and I may change to a Rio Carbon cause of the extra gb and 20 hours battery life just kicks ass.

I've had my iPod for well over a year. The battery does begin to lose its battery but it doesn't DIE like people are saying. My original 8 hour battery still gives me a good 6 hours after a year and 7 months of constant use and recharges.
Note: I have a 2nd gen iPod! The current iPod is the 4th gen. The 4th gen batteries are much better than my iPod.
I owned a 1st gen ipod as well (so I aint' no bandwagon iPod fan) and its battery still works well. My brother currently has that 1st gen iPod and a new 4th gen iPod. He says the battery life is amazing on his new iPod.
Hope this dispells the rumors floating around... the batteries don't die. This has been my experience.

Don't get an iPod. I got one and it broke by no fault of my own and Apple has terrible customer service too.
Other players have more features, better batteries, better sound and cost less.
The only real reason to get an iPod is if you wanna be cool cause you think it's a "status symbol".
