Title: B.E.T. to ban ems just lose it. Michael Jackson to sue?
Post by: KURUPTION-81 on October 11, 2004, 12:47:19 PM
Got this from www.allhiphop.com

im flipping the channel im watching fox news and geraldo is on and he taking shots at Eminem

he was reading the lyrics on his show, the part where it says little boy boy, i mean girl girl girl
saying how it was repulsive. and talking bout children and showing them dancing like there were was awful

then he mentions how Bob Johnson of BETwas disgusted with the song for taking shots at Michael Jackson and said BETwill pull the video from there station

then they had a statement from Michael Jackson himself, and he said although he respects eminem as an artist and his right to parody, this is crossing the line

and he asked that eminem voluntaritly pull the video off outlets himself, and then Geraldo mentions that Jackson is not afraid to sue eminem if he has too......

then they had one of mikes lawyers on for comment and said only one word can describe it...CRAP

Geraldo is a fucking joke.  He should just focus on findiing Al Capone's vault and leave television forever.

Bob Johnson is a major dumbass and has been since that guy that writes the "Boondocks" pulled his hoe card.

Yea, "Tipdrill" is acceptable but "Just Lose It" is reprehensible, eh?

I like Mike and really wasn't impressed with Em dissing him like that, but considering that two of the biggest dumbasses in the media oppose this video I might have to reconsider my position.

Okay, I don't particularly care for the song, but Rap in general is not about letting the music speak for itself. The man making the music was always more important than the music itself. Whether it be thugs proving how gangster they are, or "real MCs" who talk about how "real" they are, and how fake everyone in the mainstream is. You name me one rap artist that's puts his music before who he is as a person. Rap has been built upon selling who you are, or who you want to be, and putting the music second.

As for the Em video; of course he does this for attention and for sales. But if it ain't broke then don't fix it. He sells records, and judging by how BET and Michael are reacting he's getting attention. He got what he wanted and that's that. If you don't like it, then too bad, but would you sacrifice millions of dollars so a bunch of losers in the underground and on forums (me included) respect you? Because I wouldn't.

Michael Jackson would never sue Eminem over this song.  He hates it when people say all this false stuff about him and make fun of him, but he never sues.  Think about it, every paper in the world is pushing some bullshit on M.J. each fucking week, if he was the sue happy kind, he would have made enough money to build another never neverland off of the National Enquirer alone.

How am I wrong? Get that dick out your mouth fag. Eminem FINALLY got called on the shit he does. People ARE allowed to be offended at different shit than you. I don't give a fuck. I think Eminem's antics lost their flare about 5 years ago. He should've known that someone was gonna get upset at this. But, in the end, it don't matter. Teeny boppers like yourself and the rest of the TRL viewers are gonna eat this up.

I applaud BET for taking a stand on this guy. The media loves him, which I proved with MTV's celebration of his Birthday. Where's the celebration for Dre's birthday? Jay's birthday? Biggie's? Pac's? Snoop's? The dickriding was getting out of hand, BET just balanced it.

I sense all Shady/Aftermath fans are gonna start hating BET, much like the Source.

yeah, that's a point, but rap being used as a platform for self-portrayal is not necessarily something negative. Musically, it is often quite simple, but IMO it's the MC's who make those minimalistic compositions dope. I see "NY State Of Mind" and "Shook Ones Pt. II" as two of the greatest examples of how to make a (almost) perfect song, but that is to a considerable extent because of Nas/Prodigy/Havoc on the mic. If you had to listen to those beats for 5 minutes you probably wouldn't think it's that great and be annoyed by how goddamn repetitive it is

I sense all Shady/Aftermath fans are gonna start hating BET, much like the Source.

i don't give a fuck about BET or anybody else playin this new song or not cause it's wack. But the Source is a different thing because they're quite obviously corrupted and supported Benzino's attempt to push his disappointing career. They have lost all integrity and I say that as somebody who ain't been feelin the shit coming from the Shady/Aftermath camp lately alot

This coming from someone who is KNOWN for dissing Eminem, I haven't toook The Source serious for years. Anyone who takes ANY of these mag's serious is an idiot. XXL is JUST as bad as The Source, but they're more low key about it. They diss artists ALL the time. I didn't actually say it was a bad thing, I was just responding to what that guy said. As for putting hte man before the music, I wasn't talking about the "music", I meant the lyrics of the song. Most songs by most artists are about themselves, or how they want to be. You rarely come across as song that is simply that, a song. A song that can be covered by others, and doesn't directly involve the artist. I'm not saying there aren't any but if you find one, look at the rest of the songs by that artist and over 75% wil be about him and how good he is, and maybe 25% will be just songs about something else. I mean, how many times do you hear a rock n rolll band sing lyrics about how good they are at singing, or how great the guitar player is? Why are rappers so self obsessed?

^^ lol yeah, that is embedded in the culture of hiphop, because hiphop has always been always competitive since back in its earliest days, who got the loudest sound system, who got the dopest linebombings etc. and of course battles have always been important. You can like or dislike that, but that's why alot of hiphop is the artists biggin up themselves. But then it could often be covered just like love songs; if you recite one of Big L's raps and replace specific references it's actually similar to reciting a love song; you recite something that the original writer had told from his perspective, but it's universal enough to be put in anybody's mouth; instead of universal love stuff it's universal bragging stuff.

But I get your point, i wish there was some more variety to the lyrics of many hiphop artists too. That don't even mean it has to be non-personal stuff tho, i'd be glad about some more self-reflective stuff instead of MC's biggin themselves up. Fact remains that hiphop being a way of competing had a quite positive effect too, as it got youths away from doin bs on the streets and that it is therefore logical this sense of competition is still there today and something that hiphop lives off.

I don't mind if the songs are personal, so long as there somewhat universal and relatable. Tupac's Dear Mama is a great song, and can share the same emotion 15 years from now if it were to be covered. Even from a non rapper it could work. A singer like Billy Joel, Elton John, Baby Face, or Keb Mo could rework that song and make it work. If they were to try and cover Tupac's Bomb First, it would be ridculous, but very very funny. Songs like Big L's Platinum Plus or Holdin' It Down, and just about anything by Mobb Deep would also be stupid.

Nas is okay when it comes to versatility, but a lot of his stories are over the top and to complicated for people to relate with. It's more like he just writes second rate mob movies. He should just keep it simple.

1. you're alowed to think whatever you want about eminem and his career but just because someone likes eminem it doesn't mean they're a teeny bopper or what not, correct if i'm wrong but arn't you the one who is down for lil jon? i'm sorry but that is no more teeny bopper than em. those who live in a glass house shouldn't throw stones. lol

2. your second paragraph reaks of ignorance. no celebration for those other artists.? i'm sorry but pac and biggie are always remembered by MTV on their birthdays and days of assasination annually. i don't even get to watch much tv and i witnessed pac's in june and September. Dre had a whole 2 hours on mtv when chronic 2001 came out. jay got so much attention when he retired and every other time he released records, so to say this shit about em being some special lap dog is rediculous. Eminem like it or not is the biggest single artist .....in hip hop history , he's eclipsed pac. Em right now is the 00's to elvis in the 50's, em right now is the 00's answer to the beatles in the 60's. eminem is to the 00's what Jacko was to the 80's....and so on of corse he's going to get bigger attention than jay, biggie pac, and dre.....he's bigger than all of them minus pac combined.

3. it's BET's job to balance how popular someone is? if that's true why don't they excercise this more.  excuse me if the shoe was on the other foot and MTV was banning a black dudue over some bull shit it'd be a national travisty ....go get jesse jackson and sharpton blacks are being oppressed again! shut the fuck up SGV

Anybody hear The Steve Harvey show this morning? Harvey took it way too far againsy Eminem trying to make it a racial issue. It really pisses me off when people do shit liek that. I like Steve Harvey's show, but come on, how does the Lose It video have anything to do with racism? He also brough up the whole nigga bitch shit EMinem said way before he ever blew up like it was even relevant to the argument.

The only thing I agreed on with Steve Harvey was how hypocritical Eminem is for dissing MJ. He made a good point about how Eminem is going through the struggle of getting custody of his daughter, and how they are trying to take MJ's kids away from him. It's a pretty weak point, but it makes sense.

All in all, the entire thing is stupid. I hope they ban the damn song because it sucks so bad.

I don't see how Lil' Jon is tenny bop. His records aren't exactly the re-incanation of New Kids On The Block, whereas "Just Lose It," "My Name Is," "My Band," "Real Slim Shady" etc. EMBODY Tenny bop. Anyway...

I've seen HOMAGE paid to artists(various show), but never a FULL day dedicated to an artist for their birthday. It's one thing to get attention, it's another for a station to dickride you.

MTV doesn't come out and say they ban artists, but they don't play a lot of people. But, they banned that Booyaa T.R.I.B.E. video though, which had nothing real bad in it. Had a bunch of foos working out and partying. WOW, HOW OFFENSIVE!!!!! Yet, Eminem can portray Michael Jackson as a child molester, he can run around naked, etc.? How about you shut the fuck up Jonathan.

Exactly man, that's the only reason this is pissing me off, I could give a fuck about Eminem's situation other than that. It is not a race issue, but some ignorant stupid ass black people are turning it into one. Michael ain't even fuckin black anymore. Em is makin fun of him because HE was accused of molesting some boys, not THE BLACK COMMUNITY.

It's shit like this that proves that there will never be any equality in America because people keep pulling the racial card and causing division.

Its ridiculous for him to sue, maybe his bitch ass should stop molesting kids if he wants no one to make fun of him.  Anyways, I don't respect Eminem as much as an artist cuz he always does this first single pop bullshit to attract middle school kids to buy the record, and the rest of the album is some somber, depressing, and gritty shit.  The ironic thing is that the darker songs still do extremely well as singles, so why not just keep true to the music in the first place?

He's not suing.  It's a rumour that Geraldo Rivera started.  If you had the intelligence God gave ODB, you'd know that.

How about you shut the fuck up Jonathan.

oh so that's what it's about ...the boo ya tribe being banned

seriously man if you think there's anything wrong or offensivewith the Just loose it video (other than the fact the song sucks) you're about as touchy as a house wife

I never said it was offensive, did I? I said I could see why people can get offended by this and I said I applaud BET for banning it. I never said that I was offended by it. Now who's the touchy one?

What I don't get is why they didn't try and ban him for making "tasteless" jokes about all the other artists in the past. Moby, Elvis, Sunny Bono, Britney, Christina, and so on. Fuck BET, and fuck Michael, because they make it seem that they're standing up for a principle, when their just personally offended. If they want to get the video off the air because they don't like it, then fine, but don't come out and make it seem like you you're doing it for the greater good of mankind. Next time BET doesn't play the Just Lose It and plays the generic rap video, I hope Mr. Bob Johnson thinks about every girl that will develop anorexia or become bulemic, then buy breast implants, because they want to look like the girl in the video. Or all those younger girls that suck their first dick at 12 because they wanna be cool. Hanging with the current hip hop crowd is in right now, and according to 90% of the rappers played on BET, being a slut is a great thing to be.

I might buy two copies of Encore, just to spit these guys, and I swear to God, if Em caves and changes the video, I will boycott him for the rest of my days.

agree with pretty much all of that.  The only ones that will be offended are Jackson's fans just like fans of Moby, Elvis etc.  are the only ones that would be offended by previous Em's videos.  This video is only getting banned because Bob Johnson is an MJ fan.  In the end, it won't really matter though,  because the heavy airplay that he'll get on radio and MTV should pretty much make the song a hit.

P.S.  boo @ the "fuck Michael" comment.  He's the victim in this either way you look at it.  Even if he did sleep with little boys, there was still absolutely no reason for Em to attack him for it.

Even if he did? C'mon man man. If Mike actually did touch those kids, then the last thing I'm worried about is a few jokes. Was there a reason for Em to attack Mike? I don't care either way, but you do. Are you speaking in a humanitarian sense or as a fan? Did you get upset at the Sunny Bono remark from the first album? Which was way more offensive than the Just Lose It video. Did you get upset at him making fun of Elvis in "Without Me"?

Here's a quote from MTV news ;

Jackson also called in to "The Steve Harvey Morning Show" on Los Angeles radio station KKBT-FM on Tuesday to complain. "I've never had a problem with Eminem," Jackson told Harvey, saying that he felt "appalled" and "angry" at his depiction in the video. "I've admired Eminem as an artist, and was shocked by this," Jackson said. "The video was inappropriate and disrespectful to me, my children, my family and the community at large."

Is there something about Em that makes people think he won't attack people for no reason? Because MJ seems to think so. I love how he says the the video is disrespectful to the community at large. Like they give a fuck. If this was disrespectful to the community at large, then so were all those other jokes in Em's video. How come Michael Jesus didn't say anything back then? I just don't like how he tries to tie in the ideal that is in jeopardy and seems to wantt o fight for it. All he has to say is "I'm Michael Jackson, I'm rich and powerful and I don't like to be made fun of by other artists, so I will use my money and power to stop them". At least he be teliing the truth. Until then, Fuck Michael. If this were the same instance but it was a new artist making fun of Em, and he tried to stop it, then I'd say Fuck Eminem.

Moby, Britney etc. do not represent BET, I doubt they care about them. But, someone like Jackson, though he doesn't look it, iss STILL a BLACK Icon. Eminem isn't even Black, so he's LUCKY to be played on BET.

BTW, MTV and BET share the same videos. So this:

Should also be directed at MTV.

But MTV isn't the one saying that the Eminem is stuff is bad and refuse to play it. If they were then I would direct it to them. If BET refused to play Eminem because he was white, then I wouldn't have a problem, but to say they won't play him because he's offensive is just plain stupid. Everytime I tune into BET there is something offensive. Whether it be glorifying murder, objectifying women, or whatever. These things don't offend me, but neither does the MJ jokes on Em's video. My only problem is BET trying to make it seem they're doing the right thing by not playing, and not just refusing to play because they personally don't like he's bashing Jackson. I don't even care if that was the reason, so long as they stated it. Shit, I don't evenhave a real problem. I'm just identfying Bob Johnson as a liar, or a hypocrite. Pick one.

As a jackson fan i can honestly say that im not offended. This is what Em does, he tries to get attention and right now its working. But i think this whole thing is getting out of hand with the whole racism shit. All i know is that on Nov.16 im buying Eminem's "Encore" and Michael Jackson's "Ultimate Collection boxset".
