To be honest i'm not suprised, I mean If I was Quik I would be pissed about being underrated and unapreciated too, he's such a rare talent that it's disgusting how underrated he is. I wouldn't be suprised if Warren G went the same way either, these two have dropped 2 great albums lately and both basically bombed when infact they should of done huge things as they were such high quality records. This just proves how fucked uo the record industry is, labels will only push certain artists, and people are losing out and the sad thing is is that they don't even realise it  >:(

Under the influence is tighter than Return of The Regulator.
UTI is one of the tightest releases of the last 2 years, ROTR is wack.
Dj quick could choose the indipendent way....he can earn a lot of money with indipendent sales.

If i have a different opinion dont means that i dont respect yours....u know ?
Under the influence got all that Rotr doesn't have:tight lyrics and tight ass beats.
Dj quik could choose to put out his music independently,i dont understand why he wants to still on a major.

It ain't about being on a major or going indi man, it's about getting recognised for your music, he deserves so much more recognition than he gets, he's been in this game for so many years now and nothing has changed, he should be having the same amount of commercial success as Dre does by now! Ya know? Thats how shitty the record industry is, and he's pissed off by the sounds of things and I don't blame him.

Right but now he could be happy for his situation on the industry.....he works on a big soundtrack for the new chris rock movie,is the author of that bangin beat for Truth Hurts and Maryah Carey wants to work with him,i think he could be satisfied.

This is Straight bullshit! Its bad enough living out here in North Carolina where westcoast on the radio just doesn't exist (except Dre). I'm sick of everybody playing muthafuckin "Bia Bia"... every other car plays that bullshit like ..its the greatest song on earth. Thats just one of  the many North Cakalick my ass bullshit hits that these fools listen to out here. Record Companies, of course R 2 blame and so are these new generation hip hop crack heads. I love the Neptunes but i know Quik won't get that same love they get from these dick riding executives and brainwashed consumers >:( ... R.I.P. westcoast hip hop

Lately he's involved in a lot of projects, why is so pissed ?
Now he got "connections" with the east coast (talib kweli- rawkus) and luv from almost every west coast head.....from shade sheist to nate dogg to dre and truth hurts.
Now is the time for quik to jump on the next level of his career!

You said mixing the music with the biz is a mistake, well Like I said, he feels too unappreciated by the people and he's in for the luv and so he gets tired of it. Quik might be a little sensitive. Cause people like WarrenG, Suga Free, Jayo Felony, WC, Ras Kass just to name a few never bitch about it and they are in the same position as Quik. of course they are not on the same level like Quik, but you get the point. Well to make a long story short its very sad and messed up and it shows what todays Hip Hop has come to

Quik might have a chane a mind.  Dre or somebody will try and change his mind.  In any case this will fuel Quik to make a classic album...watch.

Damn. That's some bad news.

I see it this way: It all comes down to the label. He's on the wrong label. They ain't got good distribution, promotion & shit. Only Balance & Options is availible in this corner of the world, not any other Quik record. Maybe he coulda blown up if he had better distribution, maybe more cats would've heard of him, maybe he wouldn't be quitting now. I missed out on some serious shit 'cause of wack distribution of Quik's records. I still wouldn't know 'bout him unless he was on the Training Day soundtrack, on Put It On Me wth Dre. That record had worldwide distribution. After I heard Put It On Me, I searched the net for his songs, got info, etc. Fell in love instantly. I might not know shit about anything, but IMO if he was on a different label, he coulda been big.

Lets be honest you ask somebody in UK to name 10 rappers the average person wouls say sumit along these lines:
1) Dr Dre
2) Snoop Dogg
3)  Eminem
4) Nelly
5) Ja Rule
6)  2Pac
7) Biggie
8) Ice Cube
9) Jay Z
10) Nate Dogg

Quik is proberly so fed up of not being a worldwide recognised talent he has just decided to fuck it off like.  I admit I have only ever listened to about 2 quik songs and they where ok but not really the type of shit I would listen to.

wtf U typing?
ROTR was dope as fuck, you just trying to piss Antonio off.
Wack beats? Damn near all of the beats on ROTR was of Dre jr. quality.
The lyrics was average, but some dope guest-spots made for a very dope album.
I like it much better than UTI, and I had both in rotation for weeks.

I bet Dre will snatch Quik up some time, and make him Dre jr. or his 2nd right hand, next to Mel Man.

Dre
Mel Man
Quik
Eminem
Elizondo
Storch ??

Not a bad producer lineup..

As a fan this makes me sad since ive never seen my fav artist live. It makes me sad also since I am seriously a REAL fan. I just wish I could see him live. From what ive heard theres nothin like seeing your fav artist live and sadly i might not ever experience this.

BUT as a person I respect his dessicion. You guys are pretty selfish if your mad at him if hes retiring for his kids. hes been makin music for years. Ill always have his cds to listen to whenever I want. And he is making the right dessicion for himself. Respect that.

This hurts alot man. This will fuck up west coast hip-hop big time and anyone that don't agree is out of their mind. The sad thing about it is he hasn't ever even fallen off. He's always came with the dopest shit and still got no pros out of it.

Like everyone else was sayin, you can't get mad at him for wanting to quit. Only a select few (us) even give a shit about whether he retires or not. Its a fuckin shame  >:(

You guys need to calm down. Theres no official news on this yet. Quik could have been really drunk last night. Maybe he was just pissed off at the moment. Maybe hes depressed right now and needs a break. I highly dought hes just gonna dissapear like that. Someone will talk some sense into him. And if hes gonna leave he cant go out with a greatist hits album. Hes gotta go out with a bang. A classic cd.

No rapper actually retires, none of them can stay away!

Quik is just pissed off right now cuz his last cd did not have any commercial appeal whatsoever (it is a great cd but no way it could've sold)......when you compare the beats on his cd to "John Doe", "Im Not Really Lookin",  "Put it in the Air", and "Addictive", you can see why Quik did not sell.  His worst first single ever most definietly hurt him....

Quik still has a very bright future ahead of him as far as the music business goes, once he gets his head out of his ass........

Fuck it! After reading these responses and having dam near everything he produced, my man can do just fine making beats and producing hits for other artist in the years to come. His production is definitly increasing. It's cool if he quits... just not if he does it cuz nobody's buying his shit. It makes him end it off lookin like a straight cry baby.

I dont even know how much Unda Tha Influence sold but It couldn't be that bad.. they were playin his shit on tha radio 24/7... atleast out here in Cali. And to whoever said that was a bad single? WHAT UP HOMIES, IT'S THE BIG HOMIE FORTIE, TO GIVE YOU SOME INFO ON THE CONCERT: I THINK IT'S TRUE THAT HE IS RETIREING BECAUSE HE GAVE IT IT'S ALL LAST NIGHT!!! THE SHOW WAS ON AND CRACK'IN!! I'VE BEEN TO LOTS OF QUIK CONCERTS, BUT LAST NIGHT WAS THE SHIT! HE HAD EVERYBODY THERE; SUGA FREE, AMG, HI-C, AND HIS NEW ARTIST. I HAD THE SAME REACTION YALL HAD WHEN HE DROPED THE BOMB ON EVERYBODY, I WAS LIKE " ALL HELL NAW"!!!!!!!!!! BUT THEN HE SAID WHY, I COULD UNDERSTAND WHY HE WAS RETIREING. THAT SHIT HIT ME HARD BECAUSE I'VE BEEN A FAN SINCE "QUIK IS THE NAME", WHEN I WAS STILL IN ELEMENTARY. I'M JUST GLAD I GOT TO SEE HIS LAST SHOW. I JUST HOPE EVERYBODY GOES OUT AND SUPPORTS QUIK'S GREATEST HITS ALBUM. WELL THAT'S ALL I HAVE SAY RIGHT NOW.

For those who don't respect his decission, you have to realise Quik has been in this game for a LONG time, he's put his heart and soul into his music and there's only so much rejection you can take when you feel you've done your best. I don't blame him for feeling hurt or pissed off, I think he has a right to be after all the great music he's put out for us, he should get that much love back, every artist should if they really give their all into their music.

i would much rather see quik "cry like a baby" and retire this way instead of selling out like a bitch.

he will always be the greatest westcoast producer in my eyes nonetheless.

The fucking internet is to blame... i don't even like getting on kazaa because i have my music for friends to download (give them a taste) but every time i'm on some fucking cheap bastard tries to download a whole cd. putting shade sheist on my computer was a mistake, all i see in my upload section is shade sheist, shade sheist, shade sheist...cheap bastards can afford a $1200 computer and not a $20 cd. any song you see on my computer, i have the cd, and if not it's because the cd hasn't come out yet.

on the hopeful side: master p, too short, warren g, and some others said they were going to retire and we're still hearin new shit.

Thats a shame, but as long as he stays in the game thats cool, I never really copped DJ Quik, but have been recently downloading his shit, till I can afford to cop his CD's, but like I said as long as he is in the game some shape or form even if its behind the scenes thats something.
