Title: The Real Death Row Records Facts/Discussion
Post by: Que (signing off) on November 30, 2004, 06:43:13 AM
Here's some discussions for those true G-Funk listeners from back in the day. I remember my old thread about the Crooked I Death Row album got a lot of replies. Well if anyone has some cool information, or old facts on the former powerhouse label, post them up. Please only post information from reliable sources and that you know is 100% the truth. . .

1) The song "Easy to be a soldier, When there ain't no war" is basically a re-make of the unreleased gem from the Death Row: Inside Out Compilation, "Snoop Dogg/Bitch Dogg" by Swoop G feat. Lil' c-style. The beat is different but the Lil C-Style verse is the exact same, Tha Realest added his vocals and Swoop G re-mixed his part.

Death row:Inside Out compilation (Which later became "Chronic 2000")
Disc 1

1.intro-tha realest
2.late nite-2pac,dj quik
3.whats the deal-chocolate bandit
4.only because of you-daz dillinger,outlawz,tha realest
5.going back to cali-top dogg
6.easy to be a soldier when there-tha realest
7.with me tonight-jewell
8.fifty sac-soopafly
9.we don't love em-ygd top dogg
10.they wanna be like us-tha realest w/top dogg
11.unconditional love-2pac
12.memory lane-Jewell

disc 2

1.intro-jewell,tha realest
2.snoop dogg/bitch dogg-swoop w/lil' c-style
3.just touch me-chocolate bandit
4.july haloween-sixx feet            {possibly six feet deep?}
5.Who do u believe-2pac & outlawz
6.68 & i owe u 1-jewell&the 68 girls
7.han cuff ya hoes-top dogg w/tha realest
8.gotta love a gangster-tha realest & scarface
9.cry for me die for u-tha realest w/ top dogg & sheeba black
10.i'm comin home-tha realest
11.against all odds-danny boy
12.fiend to a pipe-young soldierz

2) Danny Boy was adopted by Suge when he was 15. He lived and grew up in Chicago with his Grandmother who passed away giving custody of him to Suge Knight. Danny Boy recorded his debut solo album in 95'/96', by the summer of 96' he had a full DOUBLE CD album completed, but unfortunatly didnt see light of day. The album had production from DJ Quik (Produced over 50% and mixed the album), Kevyn Lewis, Keith Andes, Daz Dillinger and more, and featured Tupac Shakur (2 songs), Tha Dogg Pound, Jodeci, Mary J Blidge, Jewell, Gina Longo (Death Row's only white artist). Danny has not been signed to Death Row since 99', when he filed for bankrupcy and moved back to Chicago.

3) "Can't C Me" from the Dogg Pound, which was orginally a track with Ice Cube and Dr. Dre for the Helter Skelter album that never came to be. Then DPG wanted it on their album Dogg Food as the fist single.  But somebody (I won't name names!) decided that no Dre-produced track should appear on Dogg Food (Dre also did a remix of "Dogg Pound Gangstas" that was supposed to be on the album, which never saw the light of day), so the song was pulled, therefore this is a Dogg Food leftover. Then along comes 2Pac. After spending a day in the studio listening to tracks to be included on his All Eyez On Me album, he came across 3 Dre beats he liked: "Cant C me", "BluntTyme" (originally a song with 2Pac, Dre and Rage which later re-surfaced on the Aftermath compilation featuring RBX) and "Cali Love" which was orginally a solo song for Dre's new album The New World Odor: Papas Got a Brand New Funk. "Blynt Tyme" didn't make the final cut. But...after some persuasion Pac decided to go with "Cali Love" and "Cant C Me", so he erased the DPG vocals and Dre's second verse from those respective songs. In other words, you have a truly RARE song from the once-powerful Death Row Records. If and when the original "Cali Love" (with just Dre) and "Blunt Tyme" re-surface, they will immediately become collectors items. These are no speculations, just straight up facts. Thank Tony Best for the audio.

There you have it, Death Row at its finest!

(#3 was what I posted in 2000, here http://revelation.phpwebhosting.com/wca/tharow.htm)

Yes they are all real titles. "Cry for me, Die for U" was dropped from the album when "Chronic 2000" was released.

Sheeba Black used to be on Antra and worked with Kurupt, Jewell etc etc.

yea, there was 3 tracklistings involved for Inside Out/Chronic 2000.  one is the one Nino posted in the original.  Then there is another one that was similar to the one that was released however it had around 8 Dr. Dre tracks, 4 of them unreleased.  Of those 4, "Ho Hopper" was one of em, the OG version of "OG 2 BG, and the other that I remember off the top of my head was called "Die MF Die" or something like that.  The songs were remixed to include the newer artists at the time (Top Dogg, VK, Tha Realest) however Dre threatened to sue because of his deal that Death Row could only release Dre stuff in its original form.

What I would give just to dig through the Death Row vaults. People always say Suge is just out for money and such, but if he really wanted to make some cash, he'd release all of the albums he has laying around and he hasn't. I mean, even if he had to cut a deal with a few of the artists and give them a percentage, it would be worth it just to get some of those albums.

Southbound whats up man.

Crooked's contract only expired recently. He couldnt leave before. Plus after the 2001 Untouchable CD didnt drop, Suge started getting Crooked appearences with Murder INC, Benzino, Soundtracks etc. So Crooked was happy to wait for Suges return then.

The Top Dogg CD that was going to be sold online contained music he recorded around 2001, I have all that stuff, not much of it was Death Row recordings. The guy selling it was TD's friend.

Here's the straight up truth on me. . . I got online back in 1999, when overseer was known as 'PsyCreate', he did some NWA stuff plus had Igangsta, the forum was also for WCKillaz and DPGC2000.net and the main websites for Death Row was G-Locc'z Death Row News page, Playa P's "Untouchable Death Row Records" (http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Hills/5597) site, HRHQ.com (Death Row HQ) and O2Deathrow.

In 95' and 1997' Warren G, Adina Howard, Whitehead Bro's, The Twinz and Da 5 Footaz toured England, UK. Where im from. I was fortunate to meet the 5 Footaz (Neb & Jah Skills) and a few people who were responsible for the tour at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. I didnt get to meet Warren but managed to stay in touch with "Neb Luv", "Jah Skills" and a guy called "Craig" through phone and email. They introoduced me to people who worked at Death Row and for the Dogg Pound, like Tony Best, who sent me my 1st CD of rareities way back then.

I started fucking around with website stuff and did a site with Neb Luv, that was my 1st website, Ive done about 25 now. I think it was "Neb Luv Online". I did sites for all the 5 footaz, (http://www.xscinc.com/cobrared/). Then met Playa P, Matt Jory and G Loc who did the Death Row news sites, we all shared stuff (Matt I still have your Death Row footage VHS video I think lol) and we were all from England, P and Loc (Mr Loc aka Kaidy from here) were from Essex, Matt from Newcastle and I was from the South-west. To this day people say "Nino is Playa P" but im not, im a totally different person, I live a 20 minutes drive from Overseer. We put up music that we were sent from sources like Tony Best. Thats how a lot of the old Death Row / Dogg Pound unreleased songs leaked back in 99. I still have music that not even Daz has. But it was cool.

I stayed in touch with them and in 2001/02 did some work for RMG who did Death Row UK, which is why I did the page for Mark Morrison (http://www.xscinc.com/markmorrison/markmorrison.html). But his Death Row UK album never came to be and now the company has shut down.

Thats basically it. I got nothing to hide.

MOB: Danny isnt releasing the "Come Up" compilation anymore. He may put out a GOSPEL Compilation on Platinum Pearl sometime and will continue to work on his Death Row Records solo album next year. But if all goes to plan, he has a bigger project starting in January that I cant speak on.

Sharif: Yeah I do. I have around 60-70 unreleased songs from Tha Realest. About 30 from Top Dogg.

Hold on, your the guy that had never spoken to me yet had "Fukk Nino Brown" in your forum profile and dissed me on all forums, all because I would never send you an MP3 back in 2002. Did I deserve all that over an MP3?

Back to the topic:

Here is the 1st and only white artist to have ever been signed to Death Row. Back in 1996 with a $50,000 record deal, Gina Longo. . .

http://www.sonspotrecords.com/Ginalongo/

I don't know what material she recorded and who she recorded with but I know she did one with Danny Boy. Her father was Deputy District Attorney Lawrence M Longo who supervised Suge's probation for his assault in 92, and was then taken off the case. I found this old article, its interesting to true Death Row followers, http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/special/1996/nov/20/505310373.html

Quote
Longo's daughter Gina signed with Death Row, the top rap label in the country, in January and received a $25,000 advance.

Soon after Suge baught that house from the Robert DeNiro film "Casino" in Vegas.

Whats up KB!!

Oh cool, can you buy that in the UK?

Death Row R&B

They had a R&B/Rap male group signed, called "6 Feet Deep", who got their name due to them all being tall. They were called Six-Two, Six-Six, Six-Eight, and Six-Nine. In 98, Six-Nine (real name was Christopher Harvest) got married to actress Vivica Fox from movies "Soul Food," and "Independence Day" (as Will Smith's girlfriend). They divorced in 2002. Shes apparently was dating 50 Cent recently.

I always wanted to write a book on Death Row based on facts from "official" sources.

Heres another interesting thing:

Back in 1998/99 The Dogg Pound were planning to release a new album entitled, "West Coast Aftershock".

Produced entirely by Daz Dillinger and Soopafly, with guest spots from Soopafly, Heltah Skeltah, Wu Tang Clan, Ice Cube, Tha Realest, TQ, and they were going to try and get Snoop and Nate Dogg on it, along with the rest of the DPGC crew.

Was due in stores fall 1999.

No with Kurupt, it was a Dogg Pound project (Daz & Kurupt). Before Daz left and stole a grip of Death Row owned material lol.

que for real are you gonna post up some audio???

I mean you should atleast post some of this audio up that your talking about.

No offence to you, but I hate when peeps act like they made the music and talk bout it and then don't post it up. I mean I can understand if it you were the artist who made the tracks. But at the end of the day this is all old unreleased material.

I think it would be nice if you could hook up the forum with some exclusive deathrow shit. Even if it is a snippet. I mean some of the stuff you have has already been released in shitty quality so I don't think it is hurting anybody. But I guess you got tha tracks so itz all yours....lol

It was Daz who didn’t want any Dre produced tracks on Dogg Food. He wanted to have the credit for producing the album and not have to share it with dre. It's funny though, Daz definitely needed Dre for the mixing. Good mixing always made Daz's production sound its best. If you look at his best work, Dogg Food and All Eyez on Me, it was Dre's mixing then Dj Quik’s respectfully. I bet even today if Dre or Quik mixed Daz's current shit it would still sound like some of the best production coming from the west.

doubt anyone but maybe nino has It's on in good quality.

and yeah, daz definately needs someone to mix for him.  Even on Dillinger and Young Gotti, he had to have Mike Dean mix for him, and IMO that was Daz last good sounding production on an album, (and ironically after this album, daz started mixing himself)

and I thought for every 10 replies in this thread we were gonna get an "exclusive" song released to us?  well?  we should have 4 songs by now?  where are they?

thanks again

about the vault when is it going to be up and the music wut format will they be in ( i suggest .ram ie real player so that it wont take up much space and will be easy to download for ppl with modem :)

BelBol. . . Thank Q for the props, I don't think I will fuck with that website now, maybe Soopafly DPGC will work on it with Jonny Tanna instead.

I was going to post samples of every track from all of the albums/EP's I have.

Danny Boy isnt releasing a mixtape, I spoke to him last night. The 2 songs that feature Tupac on his 96 album will never be released or leaked, because DB plans to release them still when he releases his Death Row album. I don't know what will be on the mixtape that is reported on Hitemup.com, but its not an official Danny Boy mixtape and no, the Tupac songs from DB's 96 album wont be on it.

I spoke to Danny last night, he's planning to release a Gospel Compilation next year through Platinum Pearl.

BigBDrugStores - Yea, Lil Bow Bow was signed to Death Row Records when he was young, he went on tour with Dre, Snoop & The Dogg Pound when they toured off Doggystyle & Chronic. Epic Records got him when Suge got them problems with the authorities, then he went to So So Def.

MOB - I had to take DBSoul.com down due to a project DB was involved with in early 2005. Also he wants new pictures on there, so we may re-design it. I havent heard about a DVD, but if his Death Row album gets pushed back further, he's going to release a Gospel Compilation on his label, Platinum Pearl.

Crooked I - "Black Spooks" doesnt sound familular, where did you hear about the song? Black Soldier is a title . . .

Maybe, im interested in this song "Black Spooks", its not on my Untouchable CD or any of Crooked's new stuff I have. Hit me after Xmas, i'll be back then.

That website I mentioned called The Vaults maybe called "The Truth" and expose all of the phoneys online, especially those that treat the internet like its their life . . .  You know who you are.

That should give a couple people a sleepless night.

aight ill try to get the song....
