Title: Updated News on Oh My God
Post by: ibbbashore on August 29, 2002, 12:07:32 PM
Wassup everyone, here's an update on Rakim's Oh My God, that I received from a friend of mine.  From the looks of this, there are gonna be more producers than originally thought (Kayne West, Alchemist, Fred Wreck).  I was hoping Dre would produce more tracks tho :(.....anyhow good lookin' out....

--Blake

from magazine Exit 9
Rakim Album with Possible Dre/Premier Collabo

Another long day has winded down in the studio.  DJ Premier shuffles his way thru Dr.Dre's studio in a very swift manner.  The man looks beat, the expression on his face seem to point to lack of sleep and rest. Premier brings a handful of DATs and zip drives to Mel-Man and Dr.Dre. "Damn you some picky Cali niggas arent ya?" exclaims Premier, as he hands over his precious demos.  Mel-Man and Dre's eye's gleem with delight, as they put the DATs in the machine and start to examine the latest Work of Mart.  For about 30 seconds Dre's head is in constant movement, jerking up and down in unison with the beat.Dre and Mel-Man look at each other, and give an almost silent agreement.  Mel-Man tells Primo "Yo we dig the Funkadelic chop you did,but we gonna get Scott and em to redo the bassline.  Is that cool ma'man?".  Primo replies "No question, I trust you and Dre. Ya'll my niggas.",as he dips into another bag he brought over.  Dre takes a closer look and to his suprise, Primo dishes out about 10 old rare grooves and latin jazz records.

As Premier and Dre go over the old collection, they talk and laugh as if they were old friends who have never left each other's side. Dre states "Me and Primo have an odd history together. My nigga DOC used to stay up near Austin, at about that time Primo started sending out demos from his old dormroom in Texas. Me,Cube and Yella travelled down to Texas to see DOC, but instead we ran into Primo slanging mixtapes at Texas A&M."  Primo chimes in "Man that was garbage back then.I was just strugging to pay for some books and having something so a nigga could eat.  Dre was cool and shit,we exchanged numbers gave daps and went on our own ways.  I didnt run into Dre until him and Snoop were in New York around 92-93.  He came by the D&D Studios and at that time me and Eddie Sancho were helping DJ Evil Dee engineer a couple tracks for the upcoming Black Moon album.  Dre played us The Chronic and it was a reality check for me.  I trashed alot of the beats I was doing at the time, which would have been for me and Guru's album Daily Operation." As Dre takes a sip of some coffee, Primo adds "Me and Dre, we opposites but we bring each other up, he inspired me to pick up the bass guitar and some live drum basics while hes starting to fuck with the the SP."

The SP1200, an ancient relic of hip hop production, a tool which has been championed by Buckwild, Pete Rock, Large Professor and Evil Dee, is now being put to use by Dre."  Cats forget I used to do the grimey, James Brown sampled shit." Dre exclaims, he goes on and says "The two joints imma lace Rakim with and the one im trying do with ma' man Primo, is just a reminder of how I started soundwise in the game."  Dre then suprises me with an impromptu playing of "Cruel World", a straight from the gutter, no frills approach on the fate of mankind guest starring Ras Kass and Xzibit.  Dre time stretches a sped up,nearly unrecognizable Donald Byrd sample. Im treated to three vibrant layers of various drums that have been EQ'ed, filtered and tweaked out, Primo comes to my side and whispers in a chuckling voice,"I loaned Dre a Roy Ayers live bootleg record I copped in Germany. He owes me for them drums kid."  Other producers in line for "Oh My God" are Kayne West, Alchemist, Fred Wreck and Ayatollah.  "Oh My God" is slated for a late November release date on Aftermath Records.

"Oh My God" is probably be one of the best, if not THE BEST, produced hip-hop album ever. Plus with Rakim's reputation on the Mic and the potentional collaborations (Ras Kass, Xzibit, Eminem, etc.) it could be THE BEST album ever overall in any genre. I think the album is gonna take hip-hop to an even higher level 4 real.

peace

Slow your role, G. I predict this album will be not quite, but almost as good as 2001.

It might not be fake and it doesn't mean dre will do 3 beats, just 3 using the SP.

I don't have to prove anything. As long as there is no official, confirmed news on the album I will consider articles like this one as fake and  silly rumours. Btw, the article is contrary to the news I read in the latest issue of the Source. Truthfully speaking, there is too much bullshit goin on. Don't believe the hype.

I already posted a thread called "The Sauce on Rakim's "Oh my God"". I've seen this article in a couple of other forums and I really doubt it. Seems to be some kind of hoax. I remember those fake ass rumours when Dre talked about an upcomin NWA album. So many nerds were like "I was present when blabla..".

Look at the list of producers, and then look in the Rakim-thread we had a week ago.

I listed these producers as suitable for Rakim:

Kanye West, Alchemist, Fred Wreck, Dre, Primo and 2 more

and that is almost exactly this list.... strange

and why did they misspell Kanye West in the article??

According to some websites only Dre, Premo & Hi-Tek will handle the production..... ::)
These rumours are killin the whole thing.

No need to get personal. But that's what the internet is all about. Anyway, I referred to those guys who were like "I'm in the studio with Dre, Ren, Cube blabla.. their album is almost finished blabla....". I never said it was fake, don't misquote me. But you're right, I'll shut up now. Believe the hype.

yeah i know... u gotta be careful how u word things.. coz that coulda sounded like u meant the NWA project was fake.

they did go through a phase of major self promo for that... maybe to garner interest.

anyways.... i've never ever ever seen an article of this size and quality to be fake, there stuff in there you have to be a music journo to know.

so far theres not been many rumours about oh my god.. we even got that track produced by ayatollah.

Yo, I'm not believing this shit at all... First of all, Primo got his first pair of Turntables In College--he stole them from somebody in his dorm and scratched them all up.  Shortly after, he dropped out of school and went to New York, so I doubt Dre ran into him selling tapes at the swapmeet.  Secondly, Dre was definitely using a SP-1200 back in the Eazy-E/NWA days, because besides that, the only other drum machine that was out that cats were using for hip-hop was the TR-808 and that had all the drum sounds built-in, you couldn't sample with it.  The SP-1200 can sample though.  So there is no way Dre is only learning to use a SP now... This article is complete bullshit.  I doubt it is even in a magazine and if it is then that magazine is complete bullshit.  1.

Come on people, I know we all want Rakims new shit to drop sooner than later but all this so called info is bad for the heart. Only Rakim, Dre and those directly affilliated with this project, know what time it is. So if you don't know what you're talking about then don't talk. All we can do is wait, we are not in control. Now I think people are playing around with this, just to get a rise out of those who are serious about this album release. This is the ONLY album I want to hear, and while ya'll playing, this may be Rakims final album. And thats when I'll stop anticipating greatness.
