rock is in a worse state than hip-hop is.
i disagree. I think Rock is coming up once again. THere's plenty of new bands getting attention and the emo/whiny pop-punk is slowly losing popularity. As soon as that's out, you'll see some dope shit surfacing

i sadly like some emo, its a guilty pleasure, and yea rock is somewhat coming up, its taking artists too long to come out with albums,..

some new/relatively new bands that i like (1998 and on)

Muse
The Mars Volta
Tenacious D
Franz Ferdinand
Keane
Coldplay
Ben Folds
The Strokes
The White Stripes
Modest Mouse (I know they're older, but they're only now becoming popular)
Travis
Maroon 5
Mr. Bungle ("California" is one of my favorite albums ever)
Queens of the Stone Age
Placebo
Tha Flaming Lips
A Perfect Circle

I'm not a big fan of
- The Hives
- Deathcab
- Snow Patrol
- The Music
- The Postal Service

But STILL, these bands aren't what you'd consider Whiny Pop-Punk/Screamo. HEre's a few bands that fit this genre, which i fucking hate:

- Yellowcard
- Good Charlotte
- Simple Plan
- Taking Back Sunday
- The Used
- Thursday
- Brand New
- Sum41
- Blink 182 (most of the time)
- Bowling for Soup
- Thrice
^^^ FUCK THESE BANDS and anyone who sounds like them

Then of Course there's bands that are old but consistently make tight music:
- RHCP
- Radiohead
- NIN
- Tool
- Beck
- Dave Matthews Band
- Elliot Smith (RIP)
- Garbage
- Incubus
the list goes on...

Also, fuck Creed, Nickelback, and Staind. On top of that, fuck a whole bunch of NuMetal like Drowning Pool and Trapt
