As rumors swirl about 50 Cent and G-Unit signing multiple veteran talents from across the country, one more vet has added his name to the new arsenal of artists slated to be added to the roster.
Rap and Funk veteran Kokane told AllHipHop.com that he is about to be the next artist signed to G-Unit Records.
"Spider Loc made it all possible," Kokane told AllHipHop.com. "I talked to 50 Cent, and he was like, 'Man, I been listenin' to you for a while, and looking for you for like a year.' Me and Snoop kinda went our separate ways," said Kokane.
Kokane, also often credited as Mr. Kane or Jerry Long, already has been recording with Tony Yayo and Young Buck.
"Tony Yayo put me down for four songs the first time I seen him," the veteran said of recording with the Queens rapper. "I did four songs, did the hooks in less than two hours. He was impressed by that. I thank him for the invitation."
The rapper's career stems from 1989 and his emergence into Hip-Hop, by way of family members in pioneering West coast group Above The Law.
Kokane would go on to provide many of the Funk inspired vocals on Dr. Dre hits like "Let Me Ride" and others.
In 1994, Kokane debuted with Eazy-E's executive-produced Funk Upon a Rhyme.
In more recent years, he's worked with Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, and Kurupt. Kokane reflected on this new success.
"I have influenced a lot of people in this game. Instead of being mad at it, I'm honored," Kokane reflected. "But now, I've stepped into the right position that's messing with G-Unit. They don't have hidden agendas, they've got they paper. Being with Sha Money [XL] and them, they some real n***as. Ain't no sugar coatin' the game.
Kokane said the ink hasn't dried on the deal yet, but that he was still officially with 50 Cent and company.
"Dealing with these [G-Unit] n***as so far, it's been good it's a beautiful thing, Kokane said. "The paperwork ain't officially there, because we playing phone tag with attorneys, but I'm G-Unit. Period."

As much as I donīt like to see that happen I hope it benefits him financially... cause he deserves it... but imagine Kokane with G Unit... thatīs not right... I couldnīt stand when he was with Snoop but this is some real nonsense...

Like I said... I donīt want to see him with G Unit... but if theyīre bringing him into the spotlight and benefit him financially then itīs all good I guess ...

"Kokane would go on to provide many of the Funk inspired vocals on Dr. Dre hits like "Let Me Ride" and others."
That doesnt make any sense because dre was beefin wit ruthless.
-
Thats a weird move. Kokane is a funky muthafucka, and G-Unit is known for gritty east coast shit and club bangers. I don't see Kokane fitting on that shit.
-
what fuckin bullshit...

I doubt he will do anything on g unit, same with spider loc. they don't fit the g unit crowd.
-
They better let him do some hooks. maybe even on singles... if not they could sell his contract to Death Row immediately.... Kokane on G Unit... fuck....
-
Well I just saw a pig fly by in my window.

If it had a cigar in its mouth then I think we could be 100% sure....
I just hope if that whole G Unit thing goes through that Kokane at least gets in touch with Dre...
-
Why Kokane why?

didn't see this one coming, what an odd combination. but like others said, koka gotta get that paper.
-
First Spider Loc, then Kokane. Mmmm.. doesnt sound like an All Star Team to me.
-
Seems like 50 got some huge plans for G-Unit for the future, as in he's really going to be taking over control of OUR music too and not just the pop charts. Let's just hope he'll have all of these talented artists really putting out some QUALITY albums. I just can't see what his plans with Kokane really are like - most likely 50 will have to sign more artists to make Kokane fit in.
Don't expect G-Unit's growth to be over yet. There sure as hell are going to be more artists newly signed very soon.
-
Hmmmmm...I thought that G-Unit would only sign artists who appeal to their mainstream audience. And I don't think that's the case with Kokane...
It's all good for me if it pays off for the West, but I get this feeling that G-Unit is taking shit from the West and they're the ones who run away with the money.
That's just what popped up when I read that...I need to think it more over though.
-
Young Buck had a street album on G-Unit and went platinum, I'm sure Kokane can have a funky album on G-unit and go platinum. And look at the bright side maybe Kokane can bring out the best in Dre for some tracks on these upcoming G-Unit albums
-
maybe Kokane can bring out the best in Dre for some tracks on these upcoming G-Unit albums
wow first time i heard that. most of the time its Dre bringing out the best of somebody else
-
people moan about the west not getting enough exposure but when this kinda thing happens y'all moan like fuck! make up your minds...g-unit or not, exposure is exposure...
-

-
well iīm not a fan of Kokane so if he wanna sign with G-Unit thatīs on him. but i donīt wanna see M.O.P. or Mobb Deep with G-Unit and after hearin that new joint M.O.P. got with 50 iīm gonna be dissapointed coz 50 is on there singing the fucking hook >:(
-
Well I just saw a pig fly by in my window.

Well, they sure will be having a bigger budget for their albums now. Thing is, you don't know what 50's got in mind for them. I can't really see him turning Kokane into a mainstream commercial success, so he's probably got some other plans with him & others like Mobb Deep. Maybe 50 felt sorry about his roots, maybe he felt like he's got to do something back for the hiphop community instead of having all of them sellout records. Signing underground legends like Mobb, M.O.P and Kokane, and helping them putting out some really good material, could be his way to do something back for us. Maybe I'm just dreaming, but don't hate on them before you even know what they're about. Think positive.
-
:o
-
i hope 50 signs turk
-
kokane on "let me ride" yeah right! lol..
you know what, i read somewhere that it was kokane. they was talkin about how Dre was on Death Row but he still had Ruthless artist on "The Chronic" including Kokane immitating George Clinton on a few tracks.
-
Kokane WAS on the Chronic. He's the one of the singers on "The Roach (the Chronic)" doing the George Clinton impression.
-
I'm pretty sure kokane is on the let me ride rmx. interview him and ask him.
-
I'm pretty sure kokane is on the let me ride rmx. interview him and ask him.
:o and so, is clinton on the track too, or just kokane is ?
-
I can't remember, I've learned so much about rap that its hard to remember it all. just have nima call him up and ask him and get to the bottom of it.
-
why would 50 want to sign kokane he's washed up
-
is g unit signing Mobb deep?
-
kane on g unit. dats fucked up move. workin wit a snitch. how low can a ho go.
-
why would 50 want to sign kokane he's washed up
becuz kokane got talent
-
Kokane will also be on Yayo's album, and he've recorded tracks with Spider and Buck.
-
:( :( :( Power of the dollar
-
good financial move by Kane, itz not something I know many ppl wanted but seriously, where else would he get the exposure G-Unit will bring
-
Kokane signing to G-Unit and making music with them sounds like the realisation of 'No Pain, No Gain'
I have trouble imaging this combination though. 50 Cent f/ Kokane doesn't sound very good to me.
Nevertheless, a Kokane-album coming out of this might be interesting, and if it gets released and seems to have decent production and guests, I might even buy it.
But please,no G-G-G-G-Unit moaning by Kokane!
-
It is weird to see Kokane on G-Unit, but he will definitely get exposure there and sales. He deserves it. Seems like this is the only way the West gets decent exposure....through G-Unit, like it or not (Hate it or Love it...haha)
-
I think this is good for Kokane I hope this will get him a shit load of 50's paper! Kokane is a star man, he can make everybody sound good. Look at dat song he did with Diddy for example ;D
Good luck Mr Kane 8)
-
I hope Kokane gets the money he deserves !
-
ah give it a chance, you never know..
is that what you said when some dude offered you anal sex ? :P
