Just got it done last month (got it as a gift for my b-day). It was done by an artist who specializes in tattooing portraits from real photos.....it took just over 4 hours to do.
I reckon this is gonna start MAD controversy cause cats gonna come in here and call me the biggest dickrider ever, but I dont give a fuck. I been a Pac head over a decade now and his music has had a major impact in my life so it was time to get this done. The pic shows almost the entire tattoo, but it goes down a little further but I couldnt get the whole thing in the pic. Click on it to enlarge:

Seems like the guy's a pretty good artist, that's pretty close to the picture. I think I'd get some more color in it, though, it'd look better on your complexion.

most portraits are done in black and grey. ive seen a few done in color but they look too off from how the original photo was, so I opted for the usual black/grey tone. The artist who tatted me said the black actually looks better on me, because it stands out more do to me having a very fair complexion. Im not quite as white as I look in the pic though, the flash makes me look whiter than I am. I am pretty white though lol.
color tats are very nice but using them in portraits usually doesnt work. Im thinking of getting a Minotaur tatted on my left arm, and that one will most definatly be in color since its not an actual portrait.

its on my right arm. It starts just under the "Only God Can Judge Me" text on my shoulder, and goes down to about 3 inches above my elbow. Below the portrait is some text in Celebration font that says "Legend". I got it done after this pic was taken, but you wouldnt be able to see it anyway as the pic doesnt go down that far.

I have a very fair complexion, but yes the flash makes me look whiter than I am.
Do tattoos hurt?? You bet they do. But its not overwhelming. It all depends on where you get it, the artist, and how well u take pain....so it really varies with each individual. Its hard to describe what it feels like. I guess you could say its akin to having a sun burn and someone scratching it really hard.
Just make sure you go to a good artist, and more importantly, a professional place that is licensed and clean.

I guess thats why EVERY professional artist and tattoo enthusiast that has seen my tat has said the work is OUTSTANDING.

The artist who did my tat has been doing it for over 12 years and SPECIALIZES in doing portraits of real people, so he knows what the fuck he's doing. the pic on my arm is probably at a somewhat different angle, and also, its not gonna be EXACT......my arm isnt a flat surface, so it would be impossible for everything to be exactly like the pic.
Trust me, you will be hard pressed to find a better Tupac tattoo (or really, a portrait of anyone for that matter) that matches the original photo. Portraits are one of the most difficult kinds of tats to do, and its even MORE difficult if its a black person because of the detailed shading that is required.

i have two tattoos atm.. none are of people though.. one is around my wrist, the other is on the back of my left shoulder.. didnt hurt @ all.. yours doesnt look too bad @ all, from the angle of the picture though it actually looks a bit more like Rakim the 2Pac, heh.
i'm going to get another one soon, im deciding between getting my leg done.. or getting something of a cartoon character of sorts, ala the hulk, duno where though

Ive been a Pac fan since MATW came out, and his music has gotten me through so much bullshit and meant so much to me, it was time to get a tattoo. Even if when im 50 years old and I dont necessarily listen to him anymore, there is always gonna be a respect there for his music, because of what he stood for. Worse comes to worse, I got it in a place where I can easily hide it, if need be.
But I dont think ill regret it. Getting a tattoo is a very serious thing, and I wont get one if I have even the slightest thought that I will regret it. You only live once anyway.

Hahaha, I just noticed that now. Kinda strange, because I had the same exact pic where he did have a cig behind his ear. Ive seen that pic many times and he had one in all of them, this is the first one I came across where he didnt. Probably was air brushed out or something.

^^^^hahaha, it aint that bad. I mean, it does hurt, but its not unbearable. Besides, a little pain isnt a big deal to me for something im going to enjoy for the rest of my life.
If you go to get tatted up, just make sure you dont have any alcoholic beverages before or after for a few hours....alcohol thins your blood, and you may bleed easier when they tat you up. Also, alot of artists wont ink you if you are intoxicated anyway.
Me being a huge tattoo enthusiast, if you decide to get one, this is what you should do:
1. Have an idea or concept of what you want, and where u want to put it.
2. Find a good artist and review his work before getting inked.
3. Make sure the place is licensed, clean, and has an autoclave. When you are about to get a tattoo, the artist should always show you the new equipment he is bringing out (new ink containers, new needles in packages, etc), wearing gloves, etc etc.
4. If they do a good job, it is always courteous to tip them. My Tupac portrait was $350, but because he did a superb job, I gave him a hella nice tip of $60......so it actually came out to $410 total. Generally you want to leave 15-20%.
just be warned, if you get a tattoo, you WILL be addicted. I told myself I was only gonna get one, now I have four and my urge to get more ink is insatiable. At the pace im going, im gonna have more tats then Allen Iverson really soon lol....

It started to hurt towards the end a bit...especially the shading. But overall it wasnt too bad. The text I got tatted underneath (ill have pics of that up some other time) actually hurt alot more.
