STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) -- A Swedish man who was injured in a helicopter crash on his 100th birthday has died, a hospital statement said Friday.
Carl Zetterlund had been treated at Uppsala University Hospital since Tuesday when the helicopter crashed shortly after takeoff from a nursing home in Heby, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) northwest Stockholm.
At the time of the crash, police said his injuries were not serious, and he was admitted to the hospital in stable condition. But his condition worsened and he died early Friday, the hospital said in a brief statement.
Zetterlund had been supposed to celebrate his birthday with a helicopter ride to the Stockholm archipelago together with his son, grandson and 7-year-old great-grandson, police said. But the helicopter crashed after its rotor blades clipped a tree and a lamp post as it was taking off.
Zetterlund's family members, the pilot and a nursing home worker on board, were not seriously injured and left the hospital on Wednesday, news agency TT reported.
