Chelsea cough up stunning £10M for Spurs chief Arnesen
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has splashed out £10 million to sign Tottenham football director Frank Arnesen.
The champions coughed up the cash to Tottenham after caving in to their compensation demand for the loss of sporting director Arnesen.
With a three-point deduction hanging over their heads for tapping up Ashley Cole, the deal has effectively cost Chelsea £3.3m for every point they faced losing.
Spurs had threatened to make an official complaint to the Premier League if the row was not settled by noon yesterday.
But lawyers were fine-tuning the agreement hours after that deadline had come and gone.
And though the compensation figure has been agreed, the clubs were still finalising a clause preventing Chelsea from signing any Spurs employee for the next two years.
dunno if this is confirmed yet...seems a touch high :-\
