New York and Washington DC shut down the subway lines for a little bit so they can bring bomb sniffing dogs aboard, and the stock market is looking like it's going to take a huge dip from this as well. Fox News just said that 2 London hospitals have reported 185 people have been wounded. I haven't heard too much about fatalities. Apparently authorities have confirmed that it was actually Al Queda that did it and not some other group.

LONDON, England (CNN) -- A previously unknown group calling itself the "Secret Organization Group of al Qaeda of Jihad in Europe" has released a statement claiming responsibility for the subway and bus bombings in London.
CNN could not confirm the authenticity of the statement, which was posted Thursday on a Web site connected to Islamic radicals.
The statement said Islam and "Arabism" could "rejoice for it is time to take revenge from the British Zionist Crusader government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan."
"The heroic mujahideen have carried out a blessed raid in London," the statement said, translated from Arabic.
"Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern and western quarters. We have repeatedly warned the British Government and people."
The statement said the group had carried out the attack after exerting "strenuous efforts over a long period of time to ensure its success."
"We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all the Crusader governments that they will be punished in the same way if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan," it said. "He who warns is excused."
A blessed raid? Blessed by God? Amazing. Those morons who try and draw some sort of moral or theological equilivance should hang their heads in shame.

There was a news conference when I turned on CNN this morning, and they were talking about a sniper taking one of them out? The guy on the news didn't really elaborate much.
If there's any good news to come from this tragedy, it's the phenomenal emergency response that sprung up. From what I'm hearing, I guess it saved a LOT of lives.

I can't believe this, its real fucked up, I think the death toll can only rise in the coming days, they were interviewing some women who was on the bus, who was saying that it was packed because everyone had to use the bus instead of the underground, which had already been closed there, so I'm sure there will be a lot more deaths confirmed just from that one explosion.
All I can say is RIP to any of the innocent victims of this attack, and condolences to their families and friends

This is just awful. Before I went to sleep, they were showing images of some of the victims. Missing limbs and severely burned. All of them just trying to go on with their lives or enjoy a vacation.
Anyone that can make light of this situation or not have any sympathy for those innocent people who were killed/injured should burn in hell.

even before today's event i would've always had the thought in the back of my mind that something like this could and would prolly happen.
obviously i don't know how much security was increased to try and protect London but clearly it wasn't enough.

Nato expands Afghanistan mission
Nato is to expand its peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan with more forces being sent to western regions.
Nato Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer announced the move after Nato defence ministers agreed to further deployment at a meeting in Nice.
The new troops, for Herat and three other western cities, will help Nato meet its plans to operate in the whole of the country by 2006.
Nato has a force of about 8,500 troops deployed in Afghanistan.
After the meeting, Mr De Hoop Scheffer said: "We have the resources. We need to expand."
Spain, Italy and Lithuania agreed to send more troops after months of delays.
US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld praised the move, saying it would have been inconceivable for Nato to run missions in Afghanistan in the past.
"There are a lot of good things happening in this alliance," he told reporters after the Nice meeting.

Nato's current International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) comes from more than 30 countries but has been deployed in Kabul and northern regions.
The United States has long called for expanded Nato deployment to dovetail with the US-led force of around 18,000.
US-led troops continue to hunt al-Qaeda and Taleban militants, along with al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, in the Afghan-Pakistan border areas.
Nato's ministers have agreed in principle to merge their own peacekeeping force with the US operation, called Enduring Freedom.
