Eminem, born Marshall Mathers, is reportedly hanging up the microphone.
The Detroit Free Press reported that Mather’s latest album Encore will be his last release. Insiders told the paper that the rapper has been planning on retiring to concentrate on production and other ventures.
Eminem’s manager Paul Rosenberg told the paper that Encore was “certainly the cap on this part of his career” and that decision to retire was held off by the retirement of fellow Hip-Hop superstar, Jay-Z.
“He didn't want to seem like one of those guys who's playing a trick on his fans, or playing with their heads," Rosenberg told The Detroit Free Press. "It's part of the same struggle he goes through in his music -- 'How much of my inner thinking should I be putting out there?'”
Rosenberg also stated he was surprised no one caught on to the possibility of Eminem retiring, due to numerous clues on the Encore album. An insider also stated that Eminem has grown weary of the spotlight and was struggling writing as “Eminem.”
“Em has definitely gotten to the level where he feels like he's accomplished everything he can accomplish in rap," D-12 member Proof added. "He wants to kick back and get into the producing thing."
Insiders said Eminem’s inner-circle of friends knew in advance that Encore would be the best-selling rapper of all time’s last album.
Eminem is not doing interviews this summer and representatives for Eminem did not comment as of press-time.

he is a sick rapper (esp. a lot of his earlier shit), but on Encore he was very repetitive in terms of recycled themes and stuff... good thing he's spending his time on other shit, i don't mind at all.

I got mixed feelings about this if it's true. I agree that he has run out of ideas. There's only so much subject matter he can cover, and he's covered damn near every angle since he came out. Encore, imo was a decent album, but it's not a classic. Only a handful of tracks are excellent, while the rest get old in a hurry. He should get into "Lose Yourself" mode, record a new album, then call it quits. Go out on a real high note.

Man, if I was him, I'd spend a few years crafting the best album I could make - make one track here, another one there. Not really trying to come up with those 15 tracks to fill up a CD, sitting in a studio 24-7, but write whenever I get the inspiration and let the album create itself over a few years. Then release that shit and retire, go out with a real bang instead of a flop like Encore. That's what I would do.

Eminem retiring? I don't think there's much that can put him back on the map as a respected rapper anyway, but retiring after putting out Encore... That's just lame. At least give the fans something decent to think back to, instead of having them referring to you as "the rapper that fell off on his Encore so he decided to quit". Just like the title already says, with Encore he stayed in the game just too long. Thing is, I think he should retire from producing first - it actually seems like he's getting some of his rapping skills back these days. His productions are still corny tho.
Oh well, what the hell are we talking about. He won't retire yet anyway. Not this way. If was really planning to retire, he would've announced it earlier on instead of AFTER releasing the album. That way he could've got more out of the album sales. "Oh, it's his last album, we gotta pick this up man... There's gonna be no more Eminem albums after this!"

And the shit he absolutely put to waste on that album - like the beat on Rain Man. Dre gave him another gold nugget, but instead of doing something proper with it, he - well - made a whole song and didn't say shit.

rainman is prob one of the best tracks on that album, that shit is funny as hell. there was only a few tracks that i didnt skip, and that was one of em, eminem has been one of my fav rappers, but that album really was a let down. i hope he comes out wit some raw shit, or i hope that when royce's next album w/nottz comes out on shady and then him and em do a bad meets evil album, then em retires and they drop a infinite remasterd cd ;D

This doesn't surprise me. It's clear after listening to Encore that Eminem's heart just isn't in it anymore. You don't go from tearing up the mic like he did on his first 2 albums to making songs about farting and the Olson twins. It's obvious that he just doesn't care anymore.

I think that it's true because Eminem said before the "Eminem Show" album that he was going to retire once he couldn't make an album that was better than his last. And "Encore" was the first album where we see the decline of Eminem, and fittingly he is going to retire.
I really respect him for how he has handled himself, bowing out when he had accomplished everything he wanted, and not using it as a bogus marketing scheme like Jay-Z does.

His focus hasn't been on his solo music for awhile, just about everything he's released after 8 mile (Guest verses, full songs, D12 shit, Mixtapes, Freestyles) has been wack and even sometimes on some lil jon vibe club shit. Encore was a joke, maybe 4 good songs on the whole album. If he does decide to leave after this album it'll be a huge tarnish to the legacy he built over the years. I honestly think he should write and gather shit over the next 3 to 4 years and release a focussed album, keep the guests spots to a minimum and try to write 'stan' callibre tracks. If he did that he would go out respected and recognized as one of the greats, peace.

He's going out on fucking ''Encore''? If this is true, what little respect I had left for Eminem has vanished. His legacy amounts to releasing one of the biggest disappointments in rap, and in my opinon the travesty that was his latest CD overshadows his dopeness on ''Slim Shady'' and ''Marshall Mathers''.
As for the retirement, its probably for the best if his skills were going to keep deteriorating. That wouldn't have surprised me either.

Yea I agree with what your saying, I didn't really think Encore was good @ all except for a couple hits. As far as Eminem retiring I highly doubt it..he still has what it takes to make tops songs like back in the day, those fuckin skills dont just go poof and dissapear..hes still got it in him. I hate his new style he brought along with Encore he needs to drop that and move on to hits like his new song Welcome to Detroit City..also as far as retiring.. On the back of the "Encore" is an empty stage and a microphone, curtains down or something like that is the last song so I thought he's retiring from the game or atleast taking a long brake... so this doesn't come as a big surprise. Brake could be a good thing, many rappers push too much music out... like Spice-1, feels like he's dropping two albums a year. Anyway this could be just a publicity stunt...

Eminem still has the skills to make good music and release a dope album. He really just has to work on his content and don't put out retarded shit. If he wants to make a funny song, don't make stupid toliet humor, make a song like "As the World Turns" or "My Fault". He basically just has to get his act together.
And cutting the 20 track albums down and killing the dumb skits wouldn't hurt either.

The Marshall Mathers LP was a classic. Eminem Show wasn't as good. The Dre cuts on ES were classic though. I think Encore was rushed to get out. I think I read where Interscope wanted a new Eminem cd every two years. I knew it was garbage when I heard that Evil Deeds song on the radio. That shit was garbage. I think Eminem has ran out of ideas too.
