my question is this, is Eminem a pop artist who generates some street respect/appeal or is he a REAL emcee/hip hop artist who generates a shit load of pop appeal. and i dont wanna hear all the bitchin about how he fell off so hard with encore, we all know that was a bad album, thats not what this is a bout. I just think this can be an interesting discussion since so many people have such different opinions of him.

when he first came out with sslp and mmlp he was in the middle. He was putting out music for the most part that hip hop heads an the streets could enjoy and then he had stuff where it appealed to the pop audience. He had a nice median. Now its strictly pop shit and a pop crowd

Eminem has 4 good albums but for me he's still a waste of talent. He has built his success with the controversy (family pbs, beef with pop stars....). To answer your question : Eminem a pop artist who generates some street respect/appeal

yeah, track #3 "8 Mile" is my personal favorite of all of his tracks. "Role Model" used to be my favorite when he first came out, then it was "Way I Am", now it's "8 Mile".

Man, I thought about bringing up this same subject. Because, I was listening to the song "don't you wanna grow up to be just like me" the lyrics are sick. But, some of the fella's are right Em's become the very thing he was supposed to oppose. That being, a rapper who's out to put out shit to get young teenage girls to swoon on. Instead of advancing underground stuff, he's become the "The Machine". I still say he one of the best in his heyday. i.e. 1997 through 2000. Just my opinion, which can't by you a 2 cent cup of coffee.

I dont know why every young person thinks its so horrible to "sell out". You wont try to be down with the underground scene when you're a starving veteran and you have the opportunity to make millions and command power and respect. I thought this was a no brainer.

selling out and making money and having respect are two different things in my opinion. I still respected em when he made a song or two to make his 20 mil and still keep the rest of his cd tight. Selling out is 50 cent, yeah hes making money but if he stuck to working hard making the best music he can, he wouldnt be starving. But no now he sounds the same on every song and his lyrics are bubble gum because it sells. Theres a difference. Jay-z never sold out he just made his money and did his thing and he has respect and power. But who knows whats going on in all their heads, maybe 50 thinks he is making the best music he can.
