R.I.P. John

And to the morons i nthe thread, wtf are you talking about? Why was he a prick? And obviously you don't understand the concept of the bed-ins if you think the point was to just be lazy.

If you think all of this about John Lennon, I can only imagine how horrible you see your favorite rappers.

I love John's music but he was an asshole. He abandoned his first born son and abused his first wife. He apparently beat his second wife on several occasions as well and was kicked out of their house at one point.

John was the one that was kicked out lol. He lived in LA during his "lost weekend". Toward the end of his life he was a changed man, according to every account i've ever read. He had started to become more of a role in Julians life, maybe it was too late, but he did what he could to change. Early in his life was he an asshole? Yeah, probably. But later on he changed. You should judge someone based upon how they were more recently than they were earlier on in their lives.

John stood for many great things and impacted the world (for the better) more than any of us could ever hope to. For that I think he should be respected and looked upon in a positive light.

You've almost certainly heard more than one or two songs, you just don't realize. I'll hook up a few songs in a couple days.

^^ curious what you consider their "best" stuff, Iīll d/l that

and John was undoubtedly a great artists and while I think itīs not fair to reduce his character to that of an asshole, there were certainly asshole sides to him and he did a lot of asshole stuff...from starting bar fights to neglecting his son to writing subliminally anti-Semitic lyrics (at least they were viewed upon as such by many serious critics). He might have been changing for the better as he was getting older, but he definitely wasnīt just the shining apostle of peace people tend to make him out to be

Of course he wasn't. Nio one is perfect, or even remotely close. John was a pretty complicated guy from what i've read, so who knows what kinda stuff was running through his head when people are thinking hes just being a simple asshole, so its definately not fair to just give him that label.

sure, there are just a lot of people who donīt know about his asshole side and Johnīs asshole side wasnīt a marginality. But I said it myself, itīs unfair and simplistic to say he was MERELY an asshole as a person

Basically.  And I'm serious.  ANYTHING BY THE BEATLES.  Anything.  It's all quality.  Every album is great.  Every interview is great. I'm serious, they are not to be fucked with on any level by any other band.  Greatest band of all time.

He was a prick in his early years, but even then he wasn't just an all out asshole.  He beat his first wife and abandoned their son to get with Yoko Ono.  He never beat Yoko, anybody who believes that is crazy.

By 1975 or so he was mellowing out.  When Yoko took him back (76?) he spent 4 years at home with his son Sean.  He was a totally different guy.

Politically I don't agree with him much, but his ideas had merit, and I think his music has bought one hell of a lot of love to the world, which is of course good.  It's a huge tragedy, a dog doesn't deserve to die like that.  John never hurt a fly with the exception of his wife and his son, but how many men walking the planet today have done the same thing.  I don't think any of them need to die for it.  I absolutely cannot stand people like Madonna and Sean Penn and such because of their politics, but I would never want any of them to get hurt or much less shot, that's disgusting.

My personal opinion about John is that God missed him so much he brought him home REALLY EARLY.  LOL.

just like anyone else - he is more of a legend because he was taken early.

that's why McCartney hates him - bcoz Lennon is more of a Legend bcoz he is dead.

still tho... R.I.P.

I'm asking you because you know everything in the universe.

Not quite everything.  I messed up a relationship once.  So I don't know that.

It's good.  I bought it when it came out, but it was like 70 bucks or something crazy.  I really like it, there's 4 discs broken down into time periods... there's this song called "Long Lost John" that's really cool that I sing to myself all the time.  It's got versions of "Sweet bird of paradox" and things like that on it.  If you're a John Lennon fan you'll of course love it... he had tons of unreleased material.

^^ yeah, itīs some tight tracks you put together, but Iīll have to go with white boy as for my personal favs being pretty different. There were a few among these ("I am the Walrus", "For No One"), but most that I would put on such a compilation you didnīt have:

- A Day in the Life (maybe their best track ever)
- Come Together
- While my Guitar Gently Weeps
- Strawberry Fields Forever (the chord progression is sick as hell)
- Eleanor Rigby
- Help!
- Yesterday
- Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
- Norwegian Wood

...but i can see how itīs terribly difficult to make a Beatles best-of. So props anyways

"Here There & Everywhere" i'm convinced is basically Paul's tribute to the Beach Boys.  Actually, I think Paul tributed the Beach Boys twice.

First, "Here There & Everywhere" is almost identically from a compositional standpoint to the Beach Boys "You Still Believe In Me".  I never noticed it until someone mentioned it... but if you check the recordings, "Pet Sounds" came out, Paul said in an interview that the first time he heard "Pet Sounds" and "You Still Believe in Me", he cried! He thought it was the most beautiful song ever.  Shortly after, he went in the studio and recorded "here, There, and Everywhere".  The little walk down is the same in the songs, and the way they're both written with a really loose feel of verse/chorus is very similar.

Second, he outright tributed the Beach Boys in "Back in the U.S.S.R." complete with "WHOOO, OOO OOOO OOOH'S" in the background during the second verse and everything.

Isn't a big part of the tribute for Back In The USSR also because the Beach Boys used the music to Chuck Berry's song Back In The USA? Great music, great music.
