Does Europe have too many World Cup qualifying spots?
« on: June 11, 2006, 01:01:29 AM »
i think south america and africa need more spots

Serbia, Ukraine, Switzerland are getting in while Cameroon, Nigeria, Colombia, and Uruguay don't get a place

either that or the winner of oceania should play a euro team rather than a south american team for a place in the world cup

peace

I don't think South America needs more spots (maybe just one more), cause they only have 13 countries of which 3 or 4 completely suck and will never qualify for anything and 4 out of 9 countries qualifying is seems enough to me.
Maybe Africa could get 1 or 2 more, but still, soccer is biggest in Europe and there's 40-something countries (not that a lot of them don't suck, but still) so it's logical that they get way more spots for the WC

Yeah, there is a greater nucleus of good teams in Europe. The only reason those African nations didn't get in was because they screwed up in qualifying, hence we have a few African Nations at the World Cup who are never going to get anywhere in the competition. South America will practically have 5 slots for the next World Cup anyway as Australia have joined the Asian federation for qualifying for the next one, meaning the 5th place South American team will probably play New Zealand in the play off which should be an easy victory for them.

Europe do hav a lot more world cup places than anywhere else, but like sum1 else said football is massive in Europe and there are loads of good teams so they get more places. I think if for example South America had more better teams than Europe then the rules wud change and there wud b more S American teams in there.

Plus Europe has more countries making up its continent than any other (i think!!! ;)) so its only sensible that they get more places.
I will believe Detox when I hear a single for it and have the album in my hands.
but what if you loose your hands before Detox drops?

CONCACAF should only get 2 spots instead of 4, one spot should be given to CONMEBOL and the other to UEFA or even from Africa

Europe owns soccer. Africa teams are fun to watch n shit, but in the end, as will be proven in this world cup as well, Europe dominates soccer. Brazil and Argentina are elite teams, but apart from those the top 10 is basically European.

No, it's not a sin

We're never going to devolop if they cut us down...you know how much money us "crappy" soccer nations get if we make it to the world cup? You don't have to worry becuase you're from Mexico and live in USA...two countries automatically getting in everytime. Countries like T&T need the money...and T&T proved they deserve to be there...more than i can say about those PowerHouse nations that havn't done so well so far.

Plus the exposure countries get is GREAT. Might make more little kids want to play. In Canada, we'd be a great soccer nation if we had as many kids playing soccer as we do hockey! But Canada hasn't made the world cup, but little by little Canada is improving is game becuase the globalization and the fact that soccer is cheap. I've said this before many many teams..and its true..USA now has more kids playing soccer than little league baseball..you think all those World Cups had anything to do with it?
