Anybody play Metal Gear: Snakeater?
« on: October 18, 2006, 04:10:51 PM »
I loved the one that came out right b4 this one.  I don't even play ps2 unless its for guitar hero, but i was at the EB the other day and they had Snakeater 4 sale for like $11.  Now thats pretty much a no brainer, but I gots a question about it.  I remember reading about it when it orignally dropped and it seemed like the game was centered around what types of camoflauge and face paint you used, and there was like 100's of options.  This idea seemed really wack to me - like I don't want to spend all my time decorating my guy just so I can hide in some foliage and shit.

So can anybody tell me, was this game as fun as all the other ones, or was it kinda lame as it seems all centered around camo and face paint?

yea the game is definitely worth playing,i didnt play all of it though, but i heard it was a great game. If ur going to buy it though make sure u get Metal Gear Solid 3 Substances. Its the newer version and has more stuff in it ,there both the same price too so u should be able to find a good deal on it..

Sanke Eater is a great game - the camo thing becomes trivial.
It ain't really about trial and error to find the best combo of face paint and camo; the percentages of coverage are given in the menu, so you just switch to the higher ones when the terrain changes.

The game is definitely worth playing through, I would say it's a little more fum than MGS2 as you can interrogate guards, and there's no running around that damn Big Shell.

Yes I saw the one you were referring to.  I didn't see it used as I did the OG version, and I think the one you showed was maybe $30?  The OG was used for I think $11.  Plus I can't find my memory card so i'd have to get one of those.

So it's not like the whole game is centered around changing your camo every 5 mins?

The game isn't centered around changing camo, but you will need to keep an eye on it. There's an % index in the corner of the screen which tells you how camouflaged you are. There's special camo's to get, which alter more than your appearance.

If you can, get Subsistence (the one Smoke posted), as it's got a fully controllable camera plus a shit load of extras. But you'll still get 20-25 hours of solid gameplay out of Snake Eater.

so is it exactly the same version with added stuff or is it a whole different game?? i never picked this one up either... just cause i always refuse to pay more than like 25 bucks for games now a days... unless its like GTA or something... acctually the last game i payed 50 bucks for was GTA San Andreas... other than that i wait til the prices drop or they turn greatest hits.

Yeah, the core game is still the same (but with the new camera, it adds a new dimension to the gameplay). There are a lot of extras though, including an online mode, extra game modes, the original metal gear games, and a Dvd movie made up of edited cutscenes and gameplay footage.

If you don't want to spend too much $$££, or aren't really bothered with the extras, Snake Eater is perfect.
