Alright yall, back again for number 10 and I got another certified classic joint!! This one come from Ultramagnetic MC's, a groundbeaking group from the Boogie Down Bronx. The name of the song is "Raise It Up" and is from their 1993 album "The Four Horseman".

Ultramag is lead by a true MC technician in Kool Keith. Under this persona, Keith was best know for rhyming complex, multi-syllabic words. He's got a great voice and flow that pepper the beat very nicely. The other MC in the group is Ced G who can definitely hold his own as well. The 3rd MC is a feature from Brooklyn by the name of Godfather Don.

The beat on this is simply pure hip hop at it's essence. A basic "dap boom boom dap" drum loop backing a laid back smooth melody. Also, note the really dope scratching done by DJ Moe Luv, particularly on the hook and at the introduction of the next MCs verse. And for all the cornballs, note the lack of a cheesy R&B sing songy hook. Just straight Hip Hop from top to bottom!

Keith is my favorite MC on this, he just tears the beat up. It gets no better when he's talking on the intro, demands the snare, and drops this dope ass intro "They never understood, many people are so slow..." Shit is so fucking ill!!!!!!

Anyways, crank your damn speakers cuz I guarantee this shit will move you out of your seat!!!!

You make me realize I am sleepin' on the UMC's, cause from that track I see they're really dope, especially Kool Keith.He really does damage on the mic.

Props as usual! Another great track that I had never heard before. I picked up Critical Beatdown about a year ago and was not disappointed. Looks like I need to pick up their other albums as well.

Hell yeah man! The Prodigy (the group, not dude from Mobb Deep) originally sampled him on that song "Smack My Bitch Up". I wanna say that there was initially some sort of lawsuit but it was dropped and then Keith ended up doing that song with them. Kool Keith is fuckin nuts man.
