George Clinton is suing P. Diddy
« on: February 09, 2008, 11:26:26 AM »
Funk pioneer George Clinton did an interview a couple of days ago in which he revealed plans to finally regain his own masters and recieve due publishing of his music being sampled on over 400+ songs. P. Diddy will be his first legal target.

You know we’re suing Puff for about a million and 200 thousand dollars for one of Biggie Smalls’ records. Half of that song was mine; the other half was the Ohio Players. This lawyer out of Nashville is working that, along with about 400 other cases, some have been settled under the table. It’s going to be so loud and scandalous when all this comes out.

The artists who use your samples seem to show a lot of respect for you…

I have no problem with them. That’s why it was easy to get their royalty statements. They got burned too when they had big records. The label would tell them, ‘Well, you know we paid George a million for that sample, and we paid this and that. So instead of giving them their royalties, they told them I got the money for the samples. Of course they never paid me or the publishers as much as they said. I’ll get the money when it’s all done.

The full interview is available here

Hilarious. What a broke cunt.

Years ago I read an interview with George Clinton in which he said he'd read a news story claiming he was suing Chuck D for an uncleared sample on a Public Enemy album. He said he contacted Chuck D immediately to tell him it wasn't true - that the label had sued and that George himself had no problem with rappers using his music.

Now I guess what's happened is that George is broke as a fucking joke and has no viable way of making money, so is going to claim he has beef with rappers who used his music, even though he previously said this was fine. What a flip-flop.

So your defending Diddy, and hating on George Clinton? He's a fucking legend, and if he wants his dues, he should sue whoever he wants.

I hate this defense. "He's a fucking legend!!" So the fuck what... He's also an idiot for not getting his paperwork right. He's JUST NOW trying to get some money from a 10+ year old track. That's BAD business. If he was a smart person, he would've got his paperwork right YEARS ago.

More power to him for wanting to get his money back, but don't try to make him seem like a victim. Diddy is the reason we were able to hear Biggie. He introduced the Lox. Helped out with Jodeci. Dude has done enough in the music industry to be considered a legend in his own right as well, but that's not an excuse for anything...

Even legends can be idiots.

DIDDY IS NOW A LEGEND ALSO,i don't  give a fucc if you west coast dicc heads hate,it's just the truth, but in return, yeah george was drugged outta his damn mind, and he was cool with rappers sampling and paying him a lil something when they made something bacc, yet all these cats get they chipper jones and want to buy the most expensive rims and cars and other notice me's,and don't think about them samples they use, hell i would sue they ass to,cats need to be more responsible, and stop trying to take advantage of people. this dude went through hell just to get in a position to own his masters, but he also needs to realize on the flip that a couple other memembers of parliment need they money too, george dicc'd them outta ownership as well,so if you gonna go legit go all the way legit and break them cats off as well. AND ARTIST CAN WE DO THINGS WITH OUT ALWAYS SAMPLING???,yeah shit sounds good but can you really complain if you take somebody else's shit? sgv spoke some networth tho,but other fans who just want to defend rap artist and the like just because go get a fucc'n clue yell
