« on: January 20, 2008, 03:30:40 PM »
Hey ya'll what's crackin? what it do? I'd really, really appreciate it if i could get your ears for a moment. I just finished mixing this song down & need to know what others hear, is the vocals too loud? they too up in the front? they too low in the mix? shit like that, pay attention to the vocals for me, thanks! This is a track i produced for this amazing singer who goes by the name of TANEAL, she really is one bad azz singer. So show her some love ya'll....thanks!

i think they need to be put more in the front. but id rather fatten the vocals up, use some reverbs or maybe effects....
everything else in the mix is pretty much fat and thick but the vocals are just thin... thats rather the problem than the volume

just my 2 cent
good luck

I have done a lot of mixing and i must agree with the masses that your vocals are low and dry/flat. Add a lil comp, and eq for some highs or remove some lows. Lower the adlib tracks to play them in the background. Push the singer harder. As you record her, don't be satisfied because you like how she sounds. Push her vocal range and tune even more. She doesn't sound bad but you should push her for more. Good work overall though.

- the drums are too loud, turn all of them down, snare, kick, hats, all that shit is so loud i cant even hear what she is saying sometimes. not a good start.

- subtract some low end with an eq. i dont know if you just cranked up the low and high end cuz you thought that's what hip hop is (its ok i see it all the time) but a good sound does not equate with lots of bass. hip hop is easy to mix because most of the soundkits you are using are pre eq'd before they are sold. there shouldn't be too much mixing in regards to that.

- put a slight delay or reverb on the vox, it sounds like you are embarassed by her singing and are trying to cover it up with the beat. take time with the vocals, there are a lot of effects you can put on during the chorus or verses that willl enhance her sound.
-those adlibs can be turned down, maybe throw some effects on those a little just to sweeten up the sound.

-Yeah when i play it back with no bass at all the drums are still too hot and you can hear them distorting so you gotta watch the bass/drum placement.

It's a good track you have a lot of potential you just gotta learn the mixing part.
