T-Pain Named “Songwriter Of The Year”
« on: September 06, 2008, 03:09:05 AM »
Grammy award winning singer T-Pain has added another trophy to his collection as he took home the “Songwriter of the Year” honors last night (September 4) at BMI’s Urban Awards in California.

According to Variety, the event took place in Beverly Hills where the mega hitmaker also shared “Producer of the Year” with Jonathan “J.R.” Rotem and Kanye West, both whom have boosted the careers of superstars like 50 Cent, T.I., Talib Kweli, Young Jeezy and The Game with their hit singles.

Pain’s extensive songwriting track record includes the smash records “Buy U a Drank,” “Low” with Flo Rida “Bartender,” “Kiss Kiss” with Chris Brown and the Grammy-winning song “Good Life” with Kanye.

Other awards handed out last night were “Song of the Year” honors for Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” and the BMI Icon Award for The Jackson 5 represented through Marlon, Randy, Tito, Jackie in addition to Janet and LaToya.

In related news, T-Pain’s third solo disc Thr33 Ringz is inching closer to release and SOHH recently caught up with the auto-tune supersatar to find out the meaning behind the album’s title.

“The Thr33 Ringz concept is ’cause the industry is just like a circus,” he explained to SOHH. “You got the strong men, tattooed dudes, bearded ladies, elephants, tigers, all kinds of dumb crap.”

Describing to SOHH what separates him from the rest of the pack Pain pointed to his awe inspiring resume. “I got the most number 1s,” he said. “I’m not just saying that. It’s really on the charts.

I got 11 number ones [in one year]. In the history of time, The Beatles got 13. So if I woulda got two more in that year I woulda beat The Beatles. That’s why I’m the ringleader.”

Thr33 Ringz is scheduled to hit stores this fall.

Ain't niothing wrong with T-Pain, only problem is everybody wants him on a track now or they try to copy him --> oversaturating the market.

i'll argue that, quality over quanity all day. t pain songwriter of the year? are we serious, is this really the best we have to offer. i don't see how anyone who rhymed "it's TP and CB, i'm a nappy boi errr errra urrr erra uh ooooooooh weeeeeeee" can win songwriter of the year. ryan tedder should have one this over him all day. quality over quantity.

You really can't hate on him. Yeah he uses autotune to make himself sound like he's a good singer but he also writes those catchy hooks and produces a lot of those bangin beats. Dude is definitely talented.

It's catchy, but it's terrible. Like Lil' Wayne, decent delivery, incredibly bad lyrics. Everything is about sales, and catchy singles these days. It's like calling Kanye the producer of the year. Hip Hop sucks across the board these days.
