Me and Mack 10 together again? I never say never, but he has the kiss the ring first.

gbee:@ Petey: you sound like a broken record, time to grow up.

Okka

For over 15 years Messy Marv has held his own ground as an independent hustler and rap artist. From being in and out of jail, to breaking his legs, Mess has overcome hardships which eventually led him to transition into The Boy Boy Young Mess. Mess talks new albums, major label deals, the industry and digital age, and resolving problems with San Quinn in this exclusive interview.

Baycentrik: So you got the Highly Aggressive mixtape out now on iTunes..

Mess: I got the Hustlers Motivation out right now, mixtape volume one. I got the Prices on My Head Thug Money On Yo Family volume one and two, I got Highly Aggressive volume one out, and in another week or two, Highly Aggressive volume two will be in stores.

Baycentrik: Let's talk about Don't Make Me Go Der. It kicked off last month. How did you come up with the idea to do a radio show for yourself?

Mess: You know what, my homie Charles that runs Yukmouth's show was telling me that he had the line on the outlet on the shows. I definitely thought about it and said to myself, it would be a good resource for me to promote. My whole thing is, people don't get to see me everyday and I wanted to create an atmosphere where my fans could talk to me and be they self, state their opinion on topics I bring up. It was just based on me making myself more accessible. The show is a success too, we only been on a couple weeks and we got a lot of viewers and a lot of live callers. It  be 200-300 live callers a night. It's crazy man.

(Listen to Don't Make Me Go Der Radio every Sunday at 9PM PST on Blog Talk Radio)

Baycentrik: I enjoy the whole concept, it's not your standard rap show. You play old school stuff, and have themed topics of discussion.

Mess: Right, right. Like I said this is me. When you hear the Mess album you might hear the funny skits on the album, this is me in real life. I'm just humbling myself enough to be accessible, to let people know I'm a real nigga, I'm just like them. I play a variety of everything, old school, R&B, Bay music, South music. We only been on for a few weeks like I said so it's gonna switch up. All the funny skits you hear in the background, the sketch comedy, I wrote all that and did that myself too. I'm just pushing, trying to make myself accessible homie. What's hatnin!

Baycentrik: So you have this new upcoming single with Keyshia Cole. She's always given you credit for being the first to actually give her business as far as her music. Let's get into
"You as good as your last single, your last album, you as good as your last hit, so you always gotta keep it brand new."
details about this new single.

Mess: The name of the single is titled "Luv Sumbody". The song is basically about when you out doing your thing and you going through whatever you going through as far as friendship or relationship or you just meeting somebody. You get them butterflies, I'm speaking on that from a hood nigga's perspective. She coming from the woman's side as far as what goes on in a relationship and how they feel. We came together and we made a hit. D'Wayne Wiggins from Tony! Toni! Toné! produced the track. It's gonna be big.

Baycentrik: That's on the next album?

Mess: Yeah that's gonna be on the next album. Two singles I'm releasing, that's gonna be one with Keyshia Cole, and the other one is called the "Da B-Boy". That's me, The Boy Boy Young Mess.

Baycentrik: What can you say about this next album? I saw you put something out there about getting your R. Kelly on and what the fans would think about it?

Mess: Man, I'm definitely into creativity so it's no limit when it come to my creativity. I was just throwing that out there to see what type of response I would get. When you as successful as an artist as myself, you tend to sit back and think of other ways you can appeal to more of the masses. So that was just something I threw out there. The name of the new album is called The Cooking Channel. I'm bringing it back to the project superstars, Young Mess man. I'm bringing the Boy Boy shit right back for them. It's gonna be a real, real huge album. It's gonna be my first solo LP in like 4 years. I ain't put out a solo Messy Marv album out in like 4 years. The Cake & Ice Cream was something I put together and I had on my hard drive, a lot of the What U Know About Me was the same, put together out the hard drive too. This one is gonna be more like the Disobayish, the Bandannas, you know the Mess that you hear. Even though I ain't taking nothing from them albums, they were real successful albums, but this one right here I'm bringing it back to the trap.

Baycentrik: Over the years I've seen a lot albums come out but they haven't been Scalen presented albums. Personally I consider the last official album to be Bandanas, Tattoos, Tongue Rings, which is one of my favorites. So this new album is gonna be the official Scalen solo album?

Mess: Yeah this is the official Scalen album man. When you see me on different albums and doing different ventures with different labels and artists, it's just my way of giving back. The majority of the time it's an artist that you might have heard but not heard on the
"Messy Marv was a 15 year long career and I wanted a new entity cause I felt like a new person when I transitioned into this new nigga."
level that I'm pushing on. I'm like giving back, 'Mess lets do an album I need the look', alright let's do it. We might do it for the feathers or we might do it for the birds, [laughs] for the meat. it just depend how I'm feelin, or what the case is. That's my way of giving back homie, and you gonna see a lot more of that. It's good. If yall need an album or 'Messy Marv Presents' or something like that, to kick your label off, it's good, holla at me, I'm humble. Real nigga.

Baycentrik: You've teased you were putting out a 12 disc album. Were you serious when you said that?

Mess: Right. 12 disc album, it will be available in April 2010. 12 discs, Project Superstar. You have to get it online, it's one of them albums that I'm doing just strictly for all the online heads, the internet heads. I'm trying to build my online presence so I'm giving them a special package for supporting me for so long. A 12 disc album for a little bit of nothing, you know? You have to log onto ScalenLLC.com to get it.

Baycentrik: You officialy changed your name to The Boy Boy Young Mess. What are the factors in the name change? Don't you feel that it might confuse some fans, seeing as you have been known as Messy Marv for almost 15 years now?

Mess: You know what, it goes back to what I said earlier. My creativity, this is how I sell records. I'm creative and I do what I need to do to keep my name alive. This was one of the reasons why I did it. Messy Marv was a 15 year long career and I wanted a new entity cause I felt like a new person when I transitioned into this new nigga. Out of jail, got my kids full time, running my company hands-on with everything. So I transitioned into another person so I wanted to transition with my name as well. Like I said, my creativity, you gotta keep it brand new in this business. You as good as your last single, your last album, you as good as your last hit, so you always gotta keep it brand new and keep the people happy. That's what I'm trying to do, that's what I'm doing.

Baycentrik: Talk about the new clothing line, Scalen. What type of products can we expect with the Scalen brand?

Mess: Scalen is something I put together and been wanting to do for a while now. Just based on I stay fresh to death so I definitely wanted to get my own designs together, and my own clothing line. Plus I'm known around the world, and the hoods with my foreign lifestyle. I wanted to come up with something, I like sexy women, yellow women, brown women, I love women! So I wanted to make something that was gonna accentuate the curves of a woman, so that was my whole hype. I came up with the designs and the men's line actually bounced off the women's line. The women's line caters to the trendy women of all shapes and sizes and accentuates the curves of their body to enhance the beauty of the woman who wears it. This is what Scalen is all about, my signature line I'm dropping first. I'm gonna drop a line every season. I got four women's lines, a man's line, so it's something every season for the Scalen clothing line. Also I got some superstars that's sponsoring it, a lot of actresses, Nicole Parker, Terry Vaughn, TLC. When the site is up you'll be able to see exactly what I'm doing with this label right here, this brand. You gotta log onto ScalenLLC.com to get the clothing too.

Baycentrik: When you say it's mainly for women, we ain't gonna see no big ass women in some little ass Scalen clothing are we?

Mess: Aww nah you definitely not gonna see that! You might see some big ass women in some big ass Scalen clothing , but we definitely don't wanna see no big ass women in no little ass Scalen clothing.

Baycentrik: There you hear it, you ladies go buy your actual size don't but no extra small if you're extra large.

Mess: Straight up!

Baycentrik: I'd like to get your opinion on the industry and how its moving into a digital age. You got all your mixtapes on iTunes, you keep yourself accessible, you have your radio show. How do you feel about this transition, with someone more likely to go to iTunes and click 'buy now' than to go to your local mom & pops these days?

Mess: Man, I feel it's a blessing that it's that accessible for a kid 11, 12, 9 years old to get on the internet and download his favorite song to a person that old and can't get to the store to go buy they favorite song. It's a beautiful thing. What we need to do as companies and artists is get with the movement. Move with the times, feel me? A lot of major label artists don't own nothing but things like ringtone songs and high percentages and stuff like that so it's a blessing. That's how artists eat, off digital downloads and ringtones nowadays. It's a beautiful thing, I feel good about it. Like I said, Scalen LLC. is coming up, I got my radio show poppin, I'm hands on, I got some internet marketing going on now as we speak. So we on the computers, we in the office, I'm pushing a real mean line in 2010. Yall stay tuned it's gonna be real.

Baycentrik: How do you feel about these 360 deals labels are throwing out there and basically trying to own the artist and every venture as far as movies, shows, ringtones and so on?

Mess: In the beginning when I was struggling as hard as I was, I wouldn't give a fuck what a mothafucka gave me man. The record label is a cut throat industry. They use you, and you got to use it for what it's worth. That's the standard deal. You think about your stomach and then you think about them punk ass numbers, it don't even matter man. And that's another reason why people get in fucked up situations later on down the line because they hungry! People take advantage of that and throw things in your face that look real good but at the end of the day don't be shit.

I done turned down so many million dollar deals and it's pathetic. I sat down with so many people, Russell Simmons, Lil J, Sylvia Rhone, the list goes on, Michael Lynn, Aftermath. Russell offered me $700,000, Mike Lynn offered me $1.7. It's what you gonna accept and how hard you gonna work to let somebody else profit off you. Now that I'm looking at a company standpoint, I would have never did the shit I did [laughs]. It was a long time ago but I had to go through it to get to where I am now. I don't regret it. If I knew the shit that I know now, I would told every last one of them mothafuckas to suck my dick! I woulda gotten 700 from one person and told everybody to suck my dick cause I woulda twisted something up! One day when we get this paperwork ready, I got something up under my sleeve that I ain't letting out, so I'mma put it out like this! Once we get the paperwork, yall might see Mess rocking on a major label deal. But it definitely ain't gonna be no punk ass split like that. Believe it!

Baycentrik: You're on the next Murder Dog magazine cover. They posted an interview up on their site, is that more or less whats gonna be in the article word for word?

Mess: You know what homie, we did two interviews, nando. Both of the interviews he got real personal because he feels the people need to get back familiar to where The Boy Boy Young Mess come from and who he really is as a person and what he went through. We did this interview, it was real personal, and he published it before I could look at it. It's some names that I didn't mention, it's some typos and things like that. It's a real in-depth interview, the cover interview, I don't know how they gonna put it together but it's gonna
"Me and Quinn haven't talked personally..I'll talk to him any day.. Things take time to heal."
be real good. It's gonna be nothing like the interview we did online. We did two of em so it's gonna be good.

Baycentrik: I did notice it was more personal, it wasn't geared toward your music.

Mess: Right.

Baycentrik: The million dollar question everyone is curious about. I'm sure you've seen people talk about it streets, or the internet. I've heard a few things about you and San Quinn putting an end to your problems, if you can clear that up, let's hear it from your mouth.

Mess: Before I speak on anything I gotta know how everybody else feel about the situation. Whatever San Quinn or whoever else the media is blowing me up to have beef with, wanna holla at me and sit down and talk to me about differences, that's good. What happened is we went through a mutual friend, and the mutual friend is trying to get everything squashed. Me and Quinn haven't talked personally, or me and anybody else. He got his reasons, I got my reasons, we going through this mutual friend. I'll talk to him any day. At the same time, before I speak on that or address that, I wanna know how everybody else feeling so I don't feel like I said the wrong thing, or I should have said something else. I feel this way or I should have felt another way. So before I put myself out there, we gonna get this song together is what we doing now. Things take time to heal, wounds take time to heal up. We doing the song now, we getting things resolved through a mutual friend, it's gonna be alright.

Baycentrik: So do you have any DVD projects planned, or shows of that sort?

Mess: We over here working at Scalen, I have a films division in the company as well. You got the entertainment, clothing line, and you got the films division. We just shot a reality show and a movie. The reality show is called Mr. Ghetto Celebrity. You'll be able to view the trailer and first episode for download on the site. The movie is titled All Gas No Brakes, that's a soundtrack and a movie we shot. It's starring me, I play the role of Chichi, it's Chichi way or no way. Only thing I can say right now about the movie--just so I don't put it out there so everyone knows what it's about, I want everybody to go the site and be able to go out there and get it. We playing with speed and we playing with the cars so it's gonna be real good. Gigantic is the untold story, that's the documentary, as well as the other one they gonna be able to view the trailer and the documentary online. Gigantic is the documentary and the soundtrack of the untold story of Mess. Behind the rap life, behind the personal life, just on some real street shit. I'm giving the world a bird's eye view of some things they wasn't aware of.  It's gonna be real American Gangster-ish.

Baycentrik: So the documentary is Gigantic, are you going to use footage from your past, are you going to be narrating it? What's the format.

Mess: It's gonna be narrated on the level of American Gangster. If you seen American Gangster before you can hear the narrative, you see the pictures, the footage, and they tell you the story and they interviewing the law officials, the citizens, and the person at hand. We on the same level right there.

Baycentrik: Is there anything else we missed you want to talk about?

Mess: Pretty Mafia. I'm putting a group album out. The name of the album is High Heels and Handbags. They identity is, swagger on steroids, it's gonna be something different, on some black Paris Hilton type shit.  They both chicks, Pretty Tasha and Pretty Janea, they going hard man. Pretty Mafia. That will be out this year too.

Baycentrik: Any closing words?

Mess: Thank you for all the support. Scalen is the past, present and the future of hip hop in closing. Log in, ScalenLLC.com, what's hatnin!
