Barcelona land Cesc Fabregas
« on: July 12, 2010, 09:03:16 PM »
Cesc Fabregas was the subject of an embarrassing prank on Monday night as Spain celebrated their World Cup success, when he was forced to don a Barcelona shirt in front of 200,000 fans.

With Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina acting as an unofficial master of ceremonies at the party in Madrid, Barca target Fabregas was ambushed by Barcelona defenders Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique.

Reina shouted: ‘The future of Barcelona’ as his Spain team-mates pulled the famous blue-and-red striped shirt over an embarrassed Fabregas.

The Arsenal skipper, who had earlier dedicated Spain’s 1-0 victory over Holland to his current club, quickly whipped off the jersey.

But with his Arsenal future in serious doubt and new Barca president Sandro Rosell eager to bring Fabregas to the Nou Camp, the horseplay is unlikely to have gone down well in north London.

Things like this should not be allowed to happen in football. There is so many agents, chairman, presidents, lawyers etc who are employed to ensure a player plays football where they want. Cesc apparently wants to goto Barce and Arsenal have already rejected a substantial bid for him. But that should be it. Its either, make us a bid in which we consider to be good enough, or go and buy another player. Things like this only add fuel to the fire and players such as Reina should be ashamed of themselves.

Football is about being professional at all times. This is totally against everything that football stands for. Arsenal have been good to Cesc and this is such a shame because alot of Arsenal supporters who have stuck by him through thick and thin, injury after injury etc will now basically hate him for life. If I was the Arsenal chairman right now I would be faxing his agent telling him that his pay has been suspended until further notice and that he is going to be training either on his own or with the reserve team.

Players need to understand that just because they want to go somewhere else it does not necessarily mean its going to happen. Therefore they have a duty and most likely a contract to honour. Fifa should be coming down on players like Pique, Reina and whoever actually bought the Barce shirt because this is no different from 'tapping up'.

I agree La Liga is nothing more than Barca & Real Madrid and then 18 punchbags.

Sevilla and Valencia in one or two seasons in the past few years have made attempts to break that stronghold, but to no avail. Especially now Valenica have lost both David Villa and David Silva, it will make it even more of the two team league.
