DUNCAN IN POLICE ENQUIRY

Everton captain Duncan Ferguson is being investigated by police over allegations he assaulted a man who had broke into his home in Formby.

Carl Bishop, from Walton, admitted intent to steal from the footballer's home last week when he appeared before North Sefton magistrates and will be sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court next month.

However, Bishop has accused the Blues' striker of assaulting him during the confrontation.

Merseyside Police are investigating the allegation and officers want to speak to Duncan in the near future.

It is the second time the 31-year-old has confronted intruders in his home.

In January 2001 Michael Pratt and Barry Dawson were disturbed by Ferguson as they broke into his previous address in Rufford.

Pratt escaped but Dawson was restrained by Ferguson until the police arrived.

The two burglars were given a 15-month sentence but no charges were brought against the Toffees' star.

Everton are making no official comment whatsoever on the latest allegations, however; Kevin Dooley, Ferguson's solicitor, has issued the following statement:

"The incident has caused much distress to Mr and Mrs Ferguson which has been aggravatedby a complaint of assault by the burglar against Mr Ferguson which is vehemently denied."
