Reading more about it, it looks like Shaq talks about Phil in his book as being very old school. He has tons of love and respect for him, but it looks like Phil was very harsh, borderline abusive. But that's old school fathering, and it Shaq didn't seem to hold resentment to Phil. Now his biological father, that's a different story.
