Author Topic: Stupid things said in rap: that a rapper is "hard-working" or stays "grindin"  (Read 325 times)

Hack Wilson - real

Since when is 9-5 considered "hard working job"??  A 9-5 is typically your cozy office environment job where you work a short 8 hour day sitting on your ass.  Someone that gets up at sunrise and gets home late works a "hard working job"

it all depends on the amount of stress and responsibility you have i guess

BIGWORM

Sorry bud but those terms where used to describe actions before rap existed.....

Grind is a euphemism or synonym, synonymous with street culture...
I've worked 9-5 office jobs, physical labour jobs, basic retail, basic hospitality.... They're all demanding to some extent...
You experience exhaustion from sitting on your ass as a receptionist n using your brain just as you do from lifting 20 kg bags of compost or walking around on your feet all day or serving people... Its all taxing....

I'd find performing taxing if I was a performance artist, and I'm sure there can be moments of physical or mental exhaustion within the creative process of music...

You don't make $150 000 000 sitting on your ass smoking blunts all day....
If you don't believe me, ask Ice Cube...

Although snoop has made a commercial profit off sitting on his ass smoking blunts, he has still done more than just sit on his ass talking shit about what he'd do all day to make money...

Both Cube n Snoop have yet to come up with a billion dollar gimmick like beats by dre but theys trying, so give them some credit for staying on they grind and working they ass off for our entertainment the last 20 odd years...

And they don't take complete advantage of the perks to the extent that they can't see beyond they own shine...
Many rappers, some anonymously, provide either recognition for or actual man hours and momoney toward good causes....

I'm not saying you can repent a bad deed with a good one, but its better than doing Jacky n just reaping the benefits of bad deeds....

Now, I'll get off my soapbox, cos all I work at these days is crazy n deranged...
I'm not even looking for a promotion to sane, I'm just accepting this dead end position with lousy wage n hoping to coast through the rest of my existence...
But if I wanted to, I could refer to my present situation or previous employment and how I hard I worked, grinding, day in day out...

We make certain allowances for creative people, just as we revere Michelangelo for laying on his back and painting the Sistine Chapel n have nothing to say about the men who toiled to build it..

Just saying...
