The most slept on song this year...
« on: September 16, 2004, 05:44:11 PM »
I think one of the most slept on songs this year is definitely "Play your Flute" by GOODIE MOB w/ KURUPT!! This has a true west coast feel to it. In my opinion, its flawless from front to back.  Kurupt bounces all over the track, he sounds hungry. I haven't heard him rip a beat like that in a long time.  Sleepy Brown absolutely kills the hook. t-mo, gipp, and khujo are all in true form. I wasn't sure if khujo would come correct after he got into that accident, be he hasn't lost a thing. Every one of them spits a really good verse. And then last but not least, is the production. Jesus Christ that shit is sick. That flute is amazing, and  that guitar is funky as fuck.  They proved that they could still put out classic music without c-lo.  8)

Anyways, i just wanted to year yalls thoughts on this. Peace

Yeah this song was dope, but I didnt see Kurupt mentioned in the video, dont think he was on the video version, shame what with his album coming out in a bit,.
"One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" was his response. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

Yeah it was a good song. A different sound from most shit. I wasn't feeling the newest Goodie Mob though. They suffer without Cee-Lo and he suffers without them.

"One Monkey..." ainn't such a great album, true. But it does have a few tight songs on it and this is one of em

yeah the album version has Kurupt, but the video didn't. I'm guessin maybe they wanted to try to show that they could do it on their own. And I didn't buy the album, but I heard it was somewhat dissappointing, like they had some crunk shit on there, and other stuff that really wasn't their vintage sound.  I think if they went with just organized noise production, the album would have been tight from front to back.

I agree with sikotic about both sides suffering without one anoter. cee lo's first solo was incredible, the 2nd was a major let down. You can tell he was pressured to make it more commercially viable with neptunes, jazze pha, timbaland.  There were some real solid tracks, but overall that album was disappointing.

Hopefully they will all get over this bullshit and join back together.

what u heard is basically the truth. There's not much crunk, but most ain't the sound u'd want/expect/hope for them to have...the intro and the great opener "God I Wanna Live" (which IS an Organized Noize song) definitely make u remember "Soul Food" and if they had continued on that route the album could've prolly been very good to amazing. But no. 3 is a DJ Paul production and does sound alot like it...that one's still dope tho, but almost everything that follows is a true disappointment

i don't agree on cee-lo's album tho, i thought it was very good and creative, not even pharell got on my nerves really

I was pissed about how they were blatantly going for a more commercial feel on soul machine. There were a few great songs on there, but I absolutely hated hearing pharrel's voice on a cee lo track.  I mean, Timbaland and Cee lo coudn't do a better track than "I'll be around"? Primo's track was the slowest song I've ever heard him produce, so those were disappointments.  That track with Luda is the shit. Then you got the other album. To me, his first solo was incredible. I still hear new shit when i bump that album, and that came out nearly 2.5 years ago.

yeah, it wasn't immaculate, personally i could get along with pharell on that one, his voice wasn't that disturbing to me and i actually enjoyed his production. "I'll be Around" is one of the worst cuts on there, but there's sol much good material...."I Am Selling Soul", "Die Trying", "All Day Love Affair", Primo's "Evening News", "Glockapella", the Organized Noize tracks, "My Kind Of People"...

Song is sick.  I love the retro sound with the flutes.  Like Nate, anything Sleepy Brown touches turns into gold.  Kurupt's flow is bananas.  I like it.
