Warlord Interview
« on: September 27, 2006, 07:11:06 PM »
On Thursday, September 21, 2006, I had the opportunity to interview one of Death Row Records newest artists, Warlord. He spoke to me about his new album, upcoming projects, the condition of Tha Row, and the status of Suge Knight in the present being.

Warlord will be dropping his "I Can Getcha Block Knocked Off" mix tape on September 26, 2006, exclusively at myspace.com/djfokis, which includes 22 original and freestyle tracks mixed by DJ Fokis.

Rahim: Tell us about yourself and what you’ve been up to the past few years before you got on Death Row.

Warlord: I’ve been chillin, just going hard, trying to get my shit together with life, music, and going after that million.

Rahim: How did you end up on Death Row Records?

Warlord: I ran into Suge Knight and Petey Pablo in a mall and told them I had some hot shit. We exchanged numbers and then a week later I met his right hand man Big Los. We hit it off and have been on the mash ever since.

Rahim: How long have you been on Tha Row for?

Warlord: I’ve been on Death Row for a year and on the move with mix tapes. “I Can Getcha Block Knocked Off” is about to drop, as well as the album I’m working on.

Rahim: Can you tell us more about them?

Warlord: “I Can Getcha Block Knocked Off” is a mix tape series. It’s me mashing on all my favorite beats, all the hot shit that was out from 50 cent, Jay Z and LL Cool J to showcase my skill. The album is going to be nothing short of a classic, with beats from Aroc, Blacktoven, Del West, J. Classic, Jelly Roll, Lil Jon, Pyro and S. Owens. It will be featuring 2Pac, Groove Trybe, Petey Pablo, Salim, and Trey Songz. It is a well rounded album that everyone can take something from, no matter what their background is.

Rahim: You mentioned a guest appearance by 2Pac. Will 2Pac’s vocals be an unheard or recycled verse on your album?

Warlord: It will be an unheard verse from 2Pac’s Death Row era. The song is off the fuckin chain too. It was always one of my dreams to record a song with 2Pac. I hate that he wasn’t there in the lab with me. Rest his soul.

Rahim: Would you be able to give us the title of that song?

Warlord: It was never named. It was a song that was never finished. It just so happens that Simon, Big Los, and I were in the studio, and Suge thought of the song. After I heard it I told Simon I had to get on it, and he gave me the opportunity.

Rahim: Who is Simon? I have heard many references to him when spoken about Death Row, can you tell us about him?

Warlord: Simon is the C.E.O. of Death Row Records. It’s always been one C.E.O. Some call him Suge, also known as “The Boss of all Bosses”.

Rahim: What is Suge up to and how is he managing after everything that has happened this year with Tha Row?

Warlord: Suge is enjoying his life right now off parole, making power moves, fucking bitches, hitting switches, stacking riches, and ready to take over this shit again.

Rahim: From the tone of this interview, it sounds like Death Row hasn't even been dismantled. Is Death Row Records still on the map?

Warlord: Yeah we ain’t going anywhere! We’re getting ready to sweep the industry from all around the board with Death Row, and the Death Row East roster. The media needs to get their facts right. Nothing has been dismantled. Trustees only report finance and conduct audits. They have no say in the running of the company. Donald Trump and Martha Stewart have filed for bankruptcy many times.

Rahim: I'm glad to hear that Death Row is still alive and strong as ever! Like me, fans have been hoping for a miracle. We're all waiting for Death Row to run the game again. How do you expect Death Row Records to make a major comeback to the industry?

Warlord: With the release of my album, a couple of film projects, Suge Knights book, a video game (in the works), a steady going roster, and the launch of Death Row East, 2Pac’s dream will forever live on.

Rahim: Who are the new artists on Death Row?

Warlord: Lake, Petey Pablo, and Salim will be on my album. We all work well together. Salim is an R&B singer that’s hot, Lake is holding shit down back east, and Petey is doing his thang. The next step is to build a distribution company to give up-and-coming independent labels a way to reach a bigger market.

Rahim: Thank you for taking the time on doing this interview. Are there any last words you have for the fans?

Warlord: I wanna thank all the real Death Row fans and tell them that we’re still on the mash. All the DJ’s who spin my shit, the radio, StreetHop.com for the chance to speak out, The Death Row/L.O.S Family, Suge Knight, Big Los, Big U, Groove Trybe, (What up Top Breed?), and to everyone that’s been waiting, “The Coming is Near!!!!!!!”
