Yeah, thats wack if you can't pick it up outside of the states.  I really hope it becomes a media staple, because terrestrial radio is dying a QUICK death.  Clear Channel owns a huge portion of radio all across the U.S. It is very right wing (conservative), and is the FCC's little bitch. (Can't remember if Colin Powell's son heads the FCC, but i think he does).  Clear Channel dictates playlists/dj's/and talkshow fodder to all of their stations, and is not interested in any sort of musical integrity, but rather music PRODUCT.  Lots of you younger cats won't know, but radio did not used to suck this bad.

I can't give too many opinions on XM,as i don't have it.  But i'm sure its better than terrestrial radio as well.  I just know that Sirius is devoted to Music, not all the other shit that is being shoved down our throats by corporate radio / labels.  Again, if you really want access to a TON of diverse music w/o commercials, great sports coverage, talk shows (Howard Stern), Sirius is a GREAT, viable alternative.  My only regret is that i didn't get it sooner.

I don't think it's that Clear Channel is really conservative, I think just all the huge media conglomerates are afraid of the FCC.  The FCC is throwing major, huge fines at them for stuff that is for the most part out of their control.  Howard feels like saying 1 word, Clear Channel might get fined millions of dollars a day for each occurance.  They're scared shitless.

Almost all these big media groups are ruining the radio.  They even have computers that run some stations now and pick the most popular songs of the past 25 years or some shit.

Give me a d.j. anyday.  I don't have Sirius but I've heard it's great.  I KNOW XM is great because I've got it, there's about 50 channels devoted to music.  They have request shows that are hours and hours long... they play some of the weirdest shit I've never heard, etc.  Every week they have "Artist  Confidential" where they hold private concerts and ask questions with musicians, they have 2 unsigned acts channels where only people with no record label get on... they've got music all the way back to the 40's, they've got bluegrass, they've got 2 christian music channels, they've got a large variety of alternative channels.  for instance they've got one channel that's just alternative 'happy' music kind of like the poppy side of alternative, then they've got one channel that's just for techno type shit, etc.  Tons and tons and tons of different stuff.  They've got 1 channel that's just movie scores, and 1 channel that's just broadway cast recordings.  1 channel that's just uncensored stand up comedy, with their own exclusive comedians that aren't on record anywhere else, and 1 channel with family friendly comedy.  They've got a channel with just old school radio shows like The Lone Ranger and shit.  It's all really pretty incredible, I'm sure Sirius is as good.

Word.  And thats the way radio should be. As for Clear Channel not being conservative, I think it is.  Because they are so fuckin worried about the FCC fining them for some on air programming, they are EXTREMELY sensitive to anything that could offend people.  Now i understand they are that way because they will be fined, but the fact is it is too stringent.  And when you combine that with the MONOPOLY they have on broadcast radio, you get stuck with no real alternatives because these bitches own all the stations.

Yeah, but saying they're too conservative places the blame on their ideals or morals or political agenda.  Clearchannel's agenda is making obsene amounts of cash.  If they were conservative, they would have never hired Howard Stern in the first place.  They never had any problems before when people would complain and such... they're not conservative.  They just like money.

Now that the FCC is fining the shit out of them, they're having a fit.  It has nothing to do with whether or not they're conservative, it stems from them losing their ass in fines.  They'd sell crack if it was legal and made them money, they have no conservative ideaology.

One thing is for sure. Terrestrial radio is in deep trouble. It's gotten so bad that it's just unbearable. It doesn't even ,atter what genre you're in to. I'm saving up for the hardware and I'm gonna have it installed hopefully around late January. I'm still deciding which company I'm going with.

At the moment Sirius is only available in the US. XM just branched out to Canada. God knows why it isn't worldwide yet.

we have Sirius too

http://siriuscanada.ca/

LOL, I read something where XM was boasting about how they're in Canada and Sirius is not. it was either a false article or XM is spreading false rumors.

No you're right. XM was in Canada FIRST lol

I really want Sirius though
