Dilated Peoples Interview from musicmatch.com

Asking Evidence from Dilated Peoples who he looks up to in today's game, Roots and Jurassic 5 are quickly mentioned. "Yeah Jurassic and the Roots," he answers. "Those two groups especially for their touring ethic, we respect a lot. They get out there and they tour like rock bands, they just do their sh**. The audiences will come and sell out remote places. That's something that we learned from them - how important being on the road is and how important having a quality stage show is, especially Jurassic because we'd tour with them a whole lot. The Roots, we toured with them also. People who are on the up and up right now that I'm feeling the most like The Agony or people around my way more than anything. To be honest, I've been in the game for a while now and I've seen a lot of the same artists coming out and putting out fourth and fifth and sixth albums. With the exception of like Gang Starr, or Redman or a couple people it's getting hard to check for these people over and over. I'm really looking to the future."

The work ethic is key for these crews, and Evidence knows it. It can be a slow process. "Sometimes strong word of mouth or strong street buzz really does a lot for you, because you'll hear about it through your friends or whatever. You might not necessarily go buy it off that, but then there will be a reinforcement after that. It might come on the radio, or you'll see the video, or you'll hear about them coming to your town, or you'll read and article, and it's like the second impression. You might be driving down the street and see a poster up or see an ad somewhere or a sticker on somebody's car and you'll be like 'All right, maybe I will go get this.' Sometimes, it's multiple impressions. You never really know with what you're doing, how crucial that could be. Sometimes it's just shaking hands with people or just chilling or whatever."

Or, even countless interviews? "That's what it entails. A lot of people think you just make a record and go back to the crib and chill for nine months while the label goes and promotes it. That's not the case. You've got to definitely be out there, be networking with the people, be promoting your sh**, letting people know. In a lot of ways, you've got to convince people. That's all right by me."

The hard work continues to give Dilated Peoples an honest perspective."I think that's one thing that sets us apart from a lot of other people. They can hear the integrity in the music. We haven't lost touch with who we are. We definitely receive money for our record deal, but the fact that were financially better off wont reflect in our music. We're still holding on to that hunger," explains the rapper/producer from the studio, already laying down beats for the next project.
"Without The Elements It's All Irrelevent" Jurassic 5

Do almost anything to rob a genie for his wishes." 57th Dynasty

Just about the culture, the music, slang and jargon." Blak Twang

"Freedom Is A Road Seldom Travelled By The Multitude" Public Enemy
