Decision time on Turiaf
By Ross Siler, Staff Writer

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak will be in attendance tonight in Yakima, Wash., to watch forward Ronny Turiaf play what could be his last game before signing an NBA contract.

Although he dispatched scouting director Bill Bertka to Sioux Falls, S.D., to watch Turiaf play two games last week, Kupchak said he wanted to see Turiaf play in person before the Lakers decide about signing him for the rest of the season.

Turiaf played 58 minutes in back-to-back games this weekend, totaling 27 points and 11 rebounds in one and 18 points and 5 rebounds in another. He has played eight games with the Yakama Sun Kings of the Continental Basketball Association in his comeback from heart surgery.

"We're very encouraged with what we've seen," said Kupchak, who worked out Turiaf twice before he signed with the Sun Kings last month.

The Lakers also have guaranteed the contracts of Smush Parker, Von Wafer and Devin Green. With 15 players under contract, the Lakers would need to either make a trade or reach a settlement with an injured player to free a roster spot for Turiaf.

Forward Slava Medvedenko (back surgery) and guard Laron Profit (ruptured Achilles tendon) are not expected to play the rest of the season.

His agent said the deadline for the contract is today, if Ronny didn't sign, he could consider an offer from Spain (Turiaf said he wants to play for the lakers but he has to think about feeding his family). Hope Mitch is not gonna fuck the situation up. We need him in the rotation (cut Green)

LMAO...Why would we cut Green when Profit is out for the season? Cut Profit, re-sign him next season...

PG Smush Parker...Sasha Vuvajic/Aaron McKie
SG Kobe Bryant...Von Wafer/Devin Green
SF Lamar Odom...Devean George/Luke Walton
PF Kwame Brown...Brian Cook/ Ronny Turiaf
C Chris Mihm...Andrew Bynum/Slava Medvednko

Balances out perfectly...Von Wafer just needs to step it up as Kobe's primary back-up, and he will. When that happens, we have a reliable back-up at every position...

Turiaf Picks Los Angeles Over Spain

Ronny Turiaf has agreed in principle to sign with the Lakers and will join the team by Monday, his agent said.

Turiaf, who had open-heart surgery less than six months ago, averaged 13 points and 6.3 rebounds in nine games with the CBA's Yakama (Wash.) Sun Kings.

"He's packing his bags and getting ready to fly down on Monday," said Turiaf's agent, Bouna Ndiaye, who said he finalized contract details with Laker General Manager Mitch Kupchak on Thursday.

"We talked about terms and conditions of the contract and now [team owner] Dr. Jerry Buss has to approve everything. We're probably going to sign this weekend, or Monday at the latest. That's what we're expecting. I don't see any problems."

The Lakers play Miami on Monday, but Turiaf probably will not play.
