Clippers Sign Lamond Murray

The Los Angeles Clippers today signed free agent forward Lamond Murray it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.

This marks Murray second stint with the Clippers, who originally drafted him with the seventh overall selection in the 1994 NBA Draft. The eleven-year NBA veteran brings with him career averages of 11.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 25.1 minutes per game.

Murray averaged 3.4 points and 10.1 minutes in 57 games played with the New Jersey Nets during the 2005-06 NBA season. He turned in his most productive NBA season in 2001, tallying 16.6 points and 5.2 rebounds in 71 games played for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

A 6’7” forward out of California, Murray averaged 14.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 31.6 minutes in 81 games played for the Clippers during his rookie season in 1994. During his five seasons in Los Angeles, Murray averaged 11.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Murray’s most productive year for the Clippers was in 1997, when he tallied 15.4 points and 6.1 rebounds in 79 games played.

Murray was eventually traded by the Clippers to the Cleveland Cavaliers on August 4, 1999 in exchange for Derek Anderson and Johnny Newman.

I was wondering who'd pick Lamond Murray up...Didn't actually think it'd be the team he originally played for. I was under the impression that the Clippers were already set, guess they felt like adding some more fire-power before the season began...Take a look:

PG Sam Cassell...Shaun Livingston/Daniel Ewing
SG Cuttino Mobley...Quinton Ross/Lamond Murray
SF Corey Maggette...Tim Thomas/Yaroslav Korolev
PF Elton Brand...James Singleton/Aaron Williams
C Chris Kaman... Zeljko Rebraca/Paul Davis

The Clippers have a ton of potential this year but I dont think this move will make them any better on the court.  Lamond will be valuable for the younger players and team morale which is huge but I don't see him producing on the court much at all.

He's always been a good 4th quarter player (especially in garbage time ;D).

Thats cool. He definetly used to be one of the key players for the Clippers back in the day and hopefully now he could be a good last minute player for them.
