Authorities investigating animal neglect allegations against DMX have found serious wounds on two dogs that were buried at the rapper's Phoenix home.
DMX's home was raided last month by Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies, resulting in the confiscation of 12 pitbulls. Law enforcement officers also found three deceased dogs, weapons and a quarter-ounce of marijuana.
According to the Associated Press, one of the buried dogs had been inflicted with serious bite wounds and another had trauma to its abdomen. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio reported that the animals' exact causes of death had not yet been determined.
Authorities also said that a third dog carcass had been burned so badly that an exam turned out inconclusive. While no charges had yet been filed against X or anyone else, Arpaio said that may all change as the investigation moves forward.
"Someone's going to have to pay for this," he said. "We have 12 dogs who were abused and three dogs buried in the yard, someone's going to have to pay."
Murray Richman, the rapper's criminal lawyer, says that X was not at the home during the raid and hadn't been there for months. He alleges that his client was employing caretakers and veterinarians to care for his animals in his absence. Questioning how investigators could even think of connecting his client to any allegations of animal abuse, Richman stated:
"How do you attribute activities to a person who has not been there, when they have knowledge that other persons have been," he asked? "Is it because of the celebrity nature?"
