Is hip hop / pop heading in a new direction??
« on: September 20, 2007, 11:06:45 AM »

Maybe i am late on this but i have been putting the piece together lately. Timbaland always had a synth influenced sound. The new Kanye album still has lots of sample but the 80stype synth def over power these samples at time. Yesterday i heard a few jams off WIll.I.Am new record and needless to say the song impatient is a mix of disco/house its not even hip hop but it is coming from a artist who has deep hip hop roots. I was looking at the vma, Justin performed, he;s always been influenced by hip hop and his jam that he sang was heavyly influenced as well. Looking at the set up all the colors, the clothes thats very colorful these days, the plastik sunglasses....

Is Hip Hop headed towards a more house/electro retro sound???

perhaps mainstream, but hip hop has always been a mulit faceted sort of beast. several of my fellow uk and european chums on here still listen to gangster music and picture California as some sort of land filled with black men in khakis shooting eachother all day long. as long as there is a fan base for every genre, hip hop will continue to contain gangster, pop, social concious, booty, old school, party elements to it

Europe, europe, europe, is just like compton

yeah that i agree with but why i put a /pop is because weve seen different hip hop treads in pop over ther years. G funk was one the it shfted to bad boy era then you had the south master p era, the roc a fella era with lots of soul samples the south with all the lcub bangers were hearing righh now...is the next hip hop /pop mainstream era this one??? the house /disco synth one

I think you are right, that it is evolving in that style.. And I kind of like it, I prefer this new "house/electro" style in the mainstream over gangsta and dirty south.. I only listen to mainstream hip hop when I'm drinking, and it is pretty nice for that..

Checking out the new Will.I.Am now.. Pretty dope so far..

I can't say that doesn't appeal to me.the Way I Are is a fuckin' banger to me, so is Technology, I heard 2 jonts from that Will.I.Am and they're dope too

And I've been listening to a lot of house music in the past couple of months, so that might be an influence to me.Don't know tho
