Flame: Suge Knight's new rapper (Part 2)
« on: December 23, 2007, 10:55:03 AM »
We sat down with, Compton native and former Death Row Records artist, Flame to discuss his career and the situation with Suge Knight and Marion Knight Music.

StreetHop.com: I'm here with the homie Flame, what's good with you Flame, what have you been up to since we last talked?

Flame: What's good King David...I've been grindin'... I'm focused right now....I got my solo project finished, I’m happy with how the product turned out...

StreetHop.com: Oh word...we were talking about that the last time...what's the latest with it, besides it being finished?

Flame: Man, it's great! I’m living man The album's finished, it's called "The Gangsta and The Poet" We're currently working on mixtape joints, my group have an album coming out called "Who'z Deville?". It's straight for the hoods of Southeast San Diego.

StreetHop.com: Ah, so will you have any features or is it just straight up heat from yourself?

Flame: Yeah my nigga, I fucked with Mitchy Slick, Squeak Ru, Tha Relatives, Top Dogg, and Young Droop. We ain't Death Row's artists, but we fuck with Death Row. I got four new mixtapes dropping next year and of course the CD/DVD album dropping in spring on EMI.

StreetHop.com: Damn, that sounds insane. Four mixtapes? You got one hell of a work ethic. So who's distributing all of your shit?

Flame: We got one mixtape dropping with the Cali Untouchable DJ's at the top of the year. My album is coming out on EMI in Spring. Also look out for Flame: Underground Hits Volume One with Petey Pablo, Squeak Ru, 211, Aaron Hall, Kurupt, Eastwood, Top Dogg, Jayo Felony, LA Prada, Danny Boy, Big Foot, and more! It's all of my Death Row shit.

StreetHop.com: So, everybody was hearing rumors, is Marion Knight Music still in effect with your group's album or is that whole concept done with?

Flame: I get asked this a lot on myspace. Let me set the record straight. Suge is chillin', but there wont be no new label coming out now. That's the big homie, but his heart is not in music anymore. As far as Suge and I....I was trying to get me and my label signed to Death Row/Marion Knight Music....Flame Entertainment, but he started getting sued left and right so I backed out on him....

StreetHop.com: Ah man, that sucks. So what label will Time N Peace be on? Are they still coming out?

Flame: T.N.P. will come out later. We have enough material for an album, but I want to focus on my solo career first

StreetHop.com: I agree man. 2008 seems to be the year of Flame. We really need someone to bring the west back and put it down. You've been around since 2005 right? I remember Suge was promoting you, Squeak Ru, Petey Pablo, 6Pac, Rockstar, Butter, Young Life, and a few others back in 2005 in XXL. Some people were wondering before Death Row fell, how was that going?

Flame: Well Petey Pablo was on Death Row, everyone else was just around. We all still gridin' and chillin'. My nigga Squeak Ru got an album coming out. Rock Star still does beats for me. Young Life was never with Death Row, but that's the homie.

StreetHop.com: So who is Rockstar? Everyone has always wondered who he is.

Flame: Rock Star is a young producer who was fucking wit Death Row at that time.

StreetHop.com: Ah, I see. I heard J Classics and Neff-u were producers around Death Row at that time as well is this true?

Flame: Ron is the homie, that's Neff-u. He stays in L.A. now. I was in the studio with Neff-u, Squeak Ru, and Lil Eazy working on Lil Eazy's album. Ron also did the Petey Pablo song from the Step Up soundtrack. Squeak Ru, Rock Star, and Yaku were producing for the most part. I don't remember the other dude, but there were a lot of producers around trying to get put on.

StreetHop.com: Ah, I see. So, a lot of people were asking about LA Prada, what's the deal with him?

Flame: Prada plans to pursue an athletic career in college; he quit the music biz for good.

StreetHop.com: Really? Damn.

Flame: He moved back to AZ

StreetHop.com: Well alright Flame, I guess we gotta cut it short so....

StreetHop.com: You want to give a shoutout to anyone?

Flame: Yeah Blaqthoven, the whole Flame Ent. Family, everyone on myspace, and yourself for holding me down. My album The Gangsta and The Poet produced by Blaqthoven, Yaku, Squeak Ru, and Demitrious Ceasar coming soon. We comin... 2008...know the name.
