Blazers Want Career-Ending Opinion On Miles?
« on: March 18, 2008, 12:23:12 PM »
Quote
The Blazers have asked the NBA to appoint an independent doctor to evaluate Darius Miles, which will determine if he has a career-ending injury.

If the doctor says he does have a career-ending injury, then the Blazers can waive him and the final two years and $18 million can come off the salary cap.

"We've started an evaluation process regarding whether Darius has a career-ending injury," Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard said. "This will likely take some time, but my guess is this will be resolved by the end of the season."

Great. Those lucky SOB's will end up with another lottery pick and knock off $18 million off their books. Can't hate that, that organization is doing a fantastic job of rebuilding that franchise.

I liked Miles before he got injured...he was having a career year and was establishing himself as an all-star caliber player. I wouldn't mind if the Lakers signed him to a minimum offer (if he's healthy enough).

But if they only waive and not also buy his contract out, then his career really IS over.
Cause I don't care where I belong no more
What we share or not I will ignore
And I won't waste my time fitting in
Cause I don't think contrast is a sin
No, it's not a sin

Miles was a good player. Sucks for him. Good look for the Blazers though. Next season, they'll have Oden playing. Should still have their key players in tact and will be getting a good draft pick and still have money left over to make some other moves. Better look out for them next season for sure.

He's still a young guy...remember, he came out of high school. I wouldn't count him out.

Blazers wont waive him or buy him out if  he doesn't qualify for medical retirement. Thats the only way his contract comes off the cap. If he medically retires and he plays in a total of 10 games for another team before his current contract is up then his contract goes right back on the Blazers cap. If Kevin Pritchard thinks there's a chance he could play for another team, they probably would just let him sit on the inactive list until his expiring contract can be traded to a dumb ass team like Memphis for Miller, Conley and their pick or some dumb ass trade that only makes sense for Portland (Gasol for Brown's expiring).

And I'd be hesitant to give a MIP award to anybody on the Magic because it most likely has more to do with the emergence of Howard as the most dominant big in the game than it has to do with any of the other guys actually improving by much.
