What is Sven-Göran Eriksson's tactical style?

Is he defensive minded with a 4-4-2 formation and heavily relying on Set Plays?

I wouldn't call him a defensive minded type of manager at all. He usually likes to play with just 1 striker and 5 midfielders, at least that's how he had the best results here in Italy. He likes midfielders who can score a lot of goals and attack the offensive area, you know. Like Lampard, Winter, Jugovic, Lombardo, Mancini, etc.. just to name a few ones he managed in the past. I'm pretty sure he'll use a 4-5-1 formation and the focus of his game will be having offensive midfielders who can do damage without letting opponent defenders defend marking at man against them. Midfielders who can change their position, make some noise, score. Hope that helps you making a better idea of him. I think he fits pretty well Mexico style of playing football.

Interesting.  I'm guessing this can work for Mexico.  4-5-1 includes the 4-1-4-1 variation right?  So he was mainly using a 4-4-1-1 with Man City because of the players he had then no?

LB- Salcido
RB- Osorio
CB- Marquez
CB- Magallon
DMF- Torrado
LMF- Guardado
CMF- Zinha/ (Ludueńa might get his Mexican citizenship soon)
CMF- Pardo
RMF- Arce
ST- Castillo/Vela/?

Like i said the only thing he usually do is to have just one striker who can use his body to let the team advance. I mean a player who can head the ball, who can control it, stops it, wait for the midfielders to arrive, pass them the ball. That's why he asked Ronaldo Bianchi for City. He's that type of player. He failed, but that's not the point. Castillo doesn't look like that type of player, so he'll probably end up using Vela, imho. Maybe using Castillo just behind him. My bet.
