MARCUS BANKS Is Most Likely Signing With The LAKERS...
« on: June 25, 2006, 09:27:29 PM »
I dunno, this can work out, but I kinda wanted Cassell, especially since the Lakers don't really need any more young players and lack veteran contributors on the court...I think Banks has great upside, and the Lakers actually acquired him 2 years ago, but Payton messed up the trade by not showing up to his physical, causing the Celtics to give us Jumaine Jones instead...Is Banks really currently an upgrade over Smush? I mean, I'm pretty optimistic, and I think this will still work, but I think we can do better...Anyhow, now all we need is a power forward and we're pretty set...Somehting like Wilcox for Mihm? Then we just gotta sign Rush and we'll have a contending roster...

PG Marcus Banks...Smush Parker/Sasha Vujacic
SG Kobe Bryant...Kareem Rush/Von Wafer
SF Lamar Odom...Luke Walton/Laron Profit
PF Chris Wilcox...Brian Cook/Ronny Turiaf
C Kwame Brown...Andrew Bynum/1st Round Pick?

Or how 'bout Mihm for Miles...

PG Marcus Banks...Smush Parker/Sasha Vujacic
SG Kobe Bryant...Kareem Rush/Von Wafer
SF Darius Miles...Luke Walton/Laron Profit
PF Lamar Odom...Brian Cook/Ronny Turiaf
C Kwame Brown...Andrew Bynum/1st Round Pick?

Either one is fine with me...All I know is that the Lakers are soon to make some noise...Watch out.

he averages the same numbers as smush parker, so whats the point?

i'd love to get cassell too. darius miles would be a good sign, im waiting to see if that goes through.

Well, he's supposed to have more upside and a better basketball mind...Plus, he's a very good defender, an up-grade over Smush defensively, which is where we lacked at the point guard last year...He looked nice when I saw him playing for Minnesota last season, but like we both said, is he really that much of an upgrade over Smush?

Banks is not bad, but if you compare him with Cassell obviously Cassell is better.
I think he's as good as Parker, so having to pretty decent PG's is better than nothing.
I'm down with it, but if we can sign Cassell... we should do it. Sam I Am is money.

The only worry for me is the MLE curse the Lakers have with aging veterans...2 years ago, we gave the MLE to Vlade, he sat the season. Then last year, it went to McKie...Again, injured the whole season...It would suck if we signed Cassell and he ended up getting injured and started subsiding...But I don't see it happening. Banks is probably the safer bet and would be the nicer pick up for the future...Not as athletic as Smush, but he's putting up the same numbers and supposedly has a much better basketball mind which can be improved upon immensely...Banks/Smush/Sasha...That's definitely a nice PG rotation...PeACe

Joe Grande said that tomorrow night on Matt Money Smith's show (570 AM KLAC) he would reveal the player that Kobe wanted the Lakers to sign, and that he was a veteran. When asked if it was a big deal he said "yes". They then joked about whether that player looked like E.T. which was met with laughter and an ambiguous "maybe". So it's looking like the Lakers want Cassell, and that the Marcus Banks deal isn't as sure as it looked (VV see below VV)...Hopefully we can get Cassell, I think it would be great...PeACe

Snippet: Recent info came out saying the Lakers were looking for a proven college player who can defend, pass and has 3-point range on his shot. They didn’t say they wanted someone like James White, but he fits the bill. A combo guard was a possibility, but with Marcus Banks coming over this summer, they opt for a swingman. With White, they add an instant Dunk Champ and a ticket seller. It’s not like they need one, but it always helps to have another athletic swingman who can excite the crowd. White stayed in college to complete his game and it paid off. He could have come out of high school, in the same class as Kwame Brown, but his career may have taken a turn for the worst. At 23, he still has a lot of room to grow but can play within the triangle offense immediately and even run the point at times. I am surprised I haven’t thought about this pick more precisely, but it makes a lot of sense, especially for what Los Angeles would like to add on the bench.

lakers need to go after cassell he would a perfect fit and with smush as a backup we would be set to make the playoffs for sure.If we get Banks i dunno if its much of an upgrade to smush but Banks is a good defender and he likes to drive it to the basket. If he could devolpe a nice jumper he would a good fit but i think Casselle should be a priorty for the lakers.

I can so see that happening. :( Hopefully it wouldn't. But I highly doubt all 3 of them are going to play for the Lakers. That would be a dream come true.

Banks is no diffrent from smush parker. if we are going to address the point guard position then we need to sign sam cassell who has at least 2 yrs left in the tank. he can still play and hit big shots for you. marcus banks is 2nd string pg at best. why are people excited over this guy?

Marcus Banks loves to defend...He is pretty much considered a defensive-minded player. He didn't really get minutes in his career to show-case his talent, but last year with Minnesota he looked very promising on the court. Great upside, great decision-maker, pretty much a smart point guard with excellent upside...As of now, I agree, he hasn't really proven himself to be above Smush or anything, but I know for a fact that the Laker organization is very high on him and has been trying to obtain him for the last 2 years...There's no doubt that he'd start over Smush, Lakers think Smush can be deadly off the bench...I agree that we should try to push for Sam, but if we can't, Banks will be welcomed and a point guard rotation of Banks/Smush/Vujacic will be good...PeACe

What about McKie? Is he still alive?

I'm thinking we're gunna use McKie in a trade...If not, I hope he can do something for this team on the court. He brought great locker-room presence and veteran leadership off the court, but that's about it...Hopefully he'll be healthy and in playing shape for next season...
