New Trae Interview

I2G chopped it up with Trae for a exclusive interview. Done days before his Trae Day celebration in Houston, TX, we discuss the honor bestowed on him by the city and what it means to him. We also discuss his upcoming album, his thoughts on the perception of goodwill done by rappers to the outside world and much more so check it out.

Illuminati 2G is here with Trae how's it going?

Cool man, just on this road.

First I wanted to congratulate you on being awarded with your own day there in Houston, Trae Day last year. Tell me a little bit about the honor and the block party that is going down. (Block Party was last week, interview conducted before party)

I mean it is a honor to get my own holiday and in return I am giving something back to my own city. With Trae Day, it is the whole city. I am bringing school supplies to the kids, uniforms, train and horse rides, jumpers, video game contests, and a live concert. Most kids that are less fortunate do not have the opportunity to come see me in concert so I am doing a live concert in the park. It is more for the kids that I do what I do then the city but I am also proud to be from Houston and helping the city out as well.

Do you feel like these acts of good will from you and other rappers goes unoticed? I know you personally have been honored with your own day, because I feel like alot of times people focus more on what lyrically a rapper will say and be shocked with something negative that is said. Instead of looking outside the box and see what good a artist is doing.

In that aspect I do agree. But for me, I was born in the streets, from the streets and still live in the streets. My perspective is going to be giving from what I see. But people also know for me, I am able to touch the hearts of youth and other people more than someone that is not from the streets because they can relate to my struggle. Just because you are from the streets, that does not mean that you cannot be a good person in your heart. This situation for example, alot of people in the media and others have talked about my lyrics but do not mention the fact that I try to help brothers out of prison with they situations or being able to calm down alot of the rifts between the gangs and others things as well. So there is always going to be haters and naysayers, that is just the way of the world.

Alright, let's get into the music. What are in the plans for you this year? New album or mixtape that is going to drop soon?

Yeah I got the Trae The Truth mixtape that I am going to drop to the streets while I am working on my album and going on my promo tour. My album is going to the called The Truth. My album by far is going to be one of the most street influential albums to drop in a long time. I went two and a half years without dropping a solo album. The fans can expect a well rounded album, unexpected as to what I have on the album, suprising as well. No one really knows what is coming with this album, I have not even leaked the first official single yet.

Do you have a projected release date set for the album?

Nah I have no dates set right now.

Do you have any plans of doing another album with Z-Ro in the near future?

I can't really speak on the future. I mean right now you got to understand that everybody got 50 other things going on in they personal lives. When everybody gets passed it and time permits, then we can jump back in a do something. Until then, right now what I am focused on is putting out The Truth, focused on my cartoon series, and some other ventures.

That leads right into my next question. I always wondered how did the Trae The Truth cartoon series come about for you?

Me and a partner of mine put that together. It's street but it is real funny. You can check them out on my myspace page.

Do you have any upcoming collabos with any other rappers?

My album The Truth speaks for itself. I got collabos with Lil Wayne, Jadakiss, The Game, Rick Ross, Lloyd, Ludacris, Young Buck, Shawty Lo, Nicole Raye, Plies, Day 26. I am tapped out on collabos (laughs) so combined with all this, I am set for a while.

Wow, definitely forward to the album. Do you have any upcoming shows or tour dates? You said you are currently on the road right now.

Yeah I just finished up some shows in Texas. Dallas, then Houston. Trae Day of course coming up. Other than that I kind of took a leave of absence. But now that I have my energy back I am ready to get back into it.

What is your myspace or website information for people looking to check out your music?

www.myspace.com/traethatruth. Or they can log on to www.thatruthishere.com. I am trying to learn the Twitter thing. But I believe it is www.twitter.com/TRAEABN.

Ok we will get all those websites up on the site for the people so it's all good.

Yeah we also got Jay'ton's album coming real soon. He got alot of surprises and collabos on his album as well so be on the lookout for that as well.

Alright well that is all the questions that I have for you. Appreciate you getting down for the interview. Is there any last words or shoutouts you want to get out there to the people?

The truth is on the way.

Appreciate the interview.

Alright homie.
