Yes I'm a huge fan of reggae/dance hall ! It's my favorite genre of music.

As a kid I hated it, well dance hall anyways. When I was younger my older dudes from my hood would always be bumpin' it at the park and I never liked it and would always complain like "shut this shit off, these guys cant even speak english properly". Then one night I was red at the park and was triippin' out on some hash. Then my ear caught hold of the music that was playing, it was the "Super Cat~Don Dada" album. I was damn this is the shit so I went into my big homies ride and started to check out his dance hall collection and borrowed "Buju Banton~Mr.Mention" album. After going home listening to that I was highly addicted to it and started to learn about it and collect it.

Here in Toronto the Jamaican culture is a strong presence I'd even have to say Reggae/Dancehall is as big as Rap music.

I started to D.J. at a local neighborhood bar/nite club. All I would play was dancehall allot of people would be like fuck this shit put some rap on. I'd do a little set to make them happy and get drunk. As soon as I seen the time was right back to the Dance Hall those same mother fuckers that were complaining about the dance hall were on the dance floor grinin' with the bitches. So I used that formula all the time.

Bottom line hip hop/rap causes scraps and fights now on the other hand Girls like dance hall so when they on the dance floor flexing how can any str8 man resist hitting the dance floor to get there groove on with the ladies?

Reggae/dance hall is my favorite because it blends all genres of music from country to rap. I just wish Dancehall kept the same style of beats with the heavy continuous baseline instead of the weird drum patterns they use now. It sounds twice as nice on records something is way different.

My favorite genre of reggae is conscious. I've got about 600 reggae/dance hall/riddim albums most of them are riddim albums.

Wrong forum... Why?? Reggae and"real" hip hop our very similar cultures that both deal with troubling times and uplifting the listeners. It's sad ur not to educated with the history of reagge and hip hop.  Reggae is a little bigger on the east coast then the west but I know u heard jr reid and games one blood one of dj quiks classics is done In a reagge feel and vibe bomb bud,Damian Marley with cypress hill snoop dogg and he's done numerous songs with other hip hop artist and even has a cd coming out with nas who is a legend in hiphop.  Krs one use to do reggae joints run dmc did 1 with yellowman .. bone thugs, fügees, queen latifah, gangstarr, Guru, busta rhymes, doing bob Marley mix with Stephen Marley.  I don't know how I can't mention reggae in this west coast hip hop site when they are very simila I see people posting rock shit like ya boy and  lil Wayne doing that...Westupwithdat???  8)

lmao Dude, this is West Coast Connection, for West coast related stuff. Reggae would be considered outbounds, not about how Knowledgeable I am or anything. Wrong forum. I already know the countless stuff you mention.People posting Slaughter House in here is because of Crooked I is also incorrect, people posting 50 cent in here because of his relation with Dre doesn't make him a west coast act. Same thing with Slim. So Like I said before, Wrong forum, post it in outbounds, don't try and make this about my knowledge on the subject.

but I do love those tunes you mentioned. Honestly I wish more was done in that manner, I love G-Funk but damn sometimes you get a P-Funk overload. I mean Seeing Atomic Dogg Raped over and over gets tiring after awhile (lol I MEAN damn look at Ice Cube/Dre alone lol). 2001 felt very reggae, and If Detox is anything like it I'd probably love it. Though I think I'll probably still prefer the G-Funk Chronic over 2001, Its still some good stuff.

Im not that keen on the new dancehall stuff. Most of its to violent and hip hop influenced. I prefer that old laid back style.

Btw dancehall usually attracts the same violence hip-hop does here in the UK. Or at least in my experiences...
