Did Dr. Dre produce any of Dogg Food?
« on: March 20, 2010, 12:27:38 AM »
This question has probably been asked a bunch of times, but I'm new here and I've been arguing with this idiot on youtube.  He claims that Dre co-produced it when he only mixed it right?  I mean, Daz's drums are completely different than dre's so  how could Dre co-produce it?  It's clear that Dre mixed it but did he really co-produce it?

To "produce" a song or record has very little to do with making the beat.

The question has kind of been asked to death around here but since you're new, I'll go easy. Dre is not a credited producer on any of the songs. He did mix the album and there has been a lot of debate on whether he had a hand in producing but said debates have been redudant and really gone nowhere.

A producer does many things. He might not physically construct the beat. He might just be the guy who conceptializes it and coaches everyone on how he wants each individual sound to hit. I think hip-hop fans aren't always understanding of this. They hear some keyboard player say he didn't credit for plaing keys on one of Dre's songs and they confuse that with "ghost producing". I think Dre is more the composer who knows his record should sound and instructs the people around him on how to build them. Other producers might give him skeletons but he usually fleshes them out.
