one of the most well crafted, creative, potent, and ambitious albums ever created by some of hip hop's greatest contributors: the roots. released on february 23, 1999 and recorded at the legendary jimmy hendrick's electric lady studios simultaneously wit common's like water for chocolate, erykah badu's mama's gun, and d'angelo's voodoo. it took 14 years for this masterpiece to get a platinum plaque for finally reaching one million copies recently and it's very well deserved. this album to me is the bridge that joins their first three albums to the rest of the great albums they've released later and is often thought of arguably as their best album from the excellent musicianship of questlove and co. to the razor sharp lyricism displayed by the group's lead and former emcee black thought and malik b respectfully joined by the dope guest appearances from mos def, beanie sigel, erykah badu, and others. this album is also where scott storch got his start. this album is timeless and is still some of the dopest hip hop that has ever been created soundin' just as fresh as it did when it first dropped...
