Best Intros in Rap History?
« on: August 27, 2021, 03:25:44 PM »
I did a best outros thread and almost everything was Dr. Dre (because he's the only producer that will spend entire months just reworking an outro)

Now let's go for best intros of all rhyme

1.  "Thuggish Ruggish Bone" - first you got the epic Rocky esque fire in a trash can 4 part harmonizing "East 99 is where you find me slanging that yayo baby, Cleveland is the city where we come from so run run"... then the preacher "We not against rap, we not against rappers, but we are against those thugs".  Then the beat comes in and they hit the streets you see it all in the video.  Best intro ever and it wasn't just the intro to the song but it was their breakthrough single that blew them up.

2.  "Triumph" Wu-Tang... ODB didn't really do shit that whole album but if he did nothing else, he set this intro off and made it official.  "I'm the OSIRIS of this BITCH!! Wu-tang is here forever -- MUTHAFUCKAZ... take it back to 79!!!" Then Deck comes in with "I bomb atomically..." which is considered one of the greatest verses in rap history

3.  "Mo Murda" with the Wiji board intro on Bones East 99 album.... "Weji are you with me...will I die of murda, of bloody murda" Bone harmonizing together at their best then the banging beat comes in with the "MO MuRDA MURDA COME AGAIN!!!

what else?  Bone has a lot, I mean the Reverend Run intro to Flesh "World So Cruel" is great... I'm sure Dre has a lot I'm not thinking of

2001??  What the Kurupt and Xzibit thing??  Naw... I don’t know I thought Dre did way better with skits and intros on Chronic then on 2001

The first song that always comes to my mind when talking about the best intro songs / introductions. X sets the album off perfect. Classic.

It's Tray Deee and Xzibit on "Lolo". Kurupt does say "What up Dr. Dre" at the end though. Oh yeah, "Thuggish Ruggish Bone" is not the intro of "Creepin' On Ah Come Up". The intro is.

Yeah.. thanks for the clarification... I was more talking about the music video with the Intro being the harmonizing around the fire and Preacher Calvin Butts (who was in the news a lot in those days coming after Snoop) then into "Thuggish Ruggish Bone"

but checking the actual EP intro it's another weji board lead up (which is also dope) to "THuggish Ruggish Bone" and the track listed "INtro" before that is what they use in the video version... either way works, album or video it's a great lead up to "Thuggish Ruggish Bone" but good point

...as for the DMX thing yeah that became really trendy at my school in highschool everyone going around talking about that DMX intro.. but in those days I was more like a Death Row guy still wishing for mid-90's (which I still am) so I kind of resented all the hype around DMX... I'm guessing maybe you really started to get into hip-hop in the 97-98 era? or were you around old enough in the Death Row era?
