Robert fined for slamming Souness

Robert fined for slamming Souness

Newcastle have fined Laurent Robert two weeks' wages for his stinging attack on manager Graeme Souness - even though he has agreed a move to Portsmouth.

The French winger, 30, told The Sun that the Magpies would have lifted the 2005 Uefa Cup "if Souness had the intelligence to see what was going on".

"If he keeps going like he has, he'll get fired and deserve it," he added.

But Newcastle are still paying his wages until Friday and have disciplined him "for a breach of club discipline".

Robert also criticised Souness on the eve of the Uefa Cup quarter-final second-leg defeat against Sporting Lisbon.

He was dropped for that game and was in and out of the team for the remaining Premiership games.

"He put kids in the team and left me on the bench to annoy me. He's just a child," Robert added.

"He made a personal matter out of our disagreement and, by punishing me, he punished the whole team.

"I'm sure Alan Shearer told Souness he had to play me - but nothing happened.

"He will get nowhere screaming at players and slamming doors."

Robert also revealed that he was not alone in his dissatisfaction, while in the Newcastle dressing room.

"Other members of the team aren't happy with him, though they don't have the courage to speak out. But I've never been afraid of anyone," he said.

"We finished last season so badly that, towards the end, I just laughed at him.

"And I can see only a lot more pain for the players, the fans and the chairman while he remains manager."

Souness reacted on Tuesday by saying only: "I would like to wish Laurent Robert all the best at Portsmouth."

lol, i gained a little more respect for Robert and he is on point with pretty much all of it.

Laurent Robert

Newcastle have fined Laurent Robert a further two weeks' wages and reported him to the Football Association after his second outburst in two days.

Robert is leaving for Portsmouth but, after he criticised Graeme Souness, he was fined on Tuesday by the Magpies.

On Wednesday the second part of his interview with The Sun appeared - with the 30-year-old claiming Jermaine Jenas would leave Newcastle this summer.

Jermaine Jenas

Now he has been fined him two weeks' wages, reportedly £90,000, once more.

That means his outspoken views have cost the Frenchman £180,000 in the space of two days.

"He was warned not to do it and he must suffer the consequences," St James' Park chairman Freddy Shepherd told his club's website.

Robert says, "If Newcastle make any problems, I'll go back and spend the last year of my contract with them"

"We have also reported him to the Football Association and we are seeking guidance from them on any further action they may wish to take."

Robert has four years left on his Newcastle contract but has agreed to spend three of them with Portsmouth in an unusual loan deal.

Confusion has surrounded the transfer ever since it was first announced, as it was unclear whether it was a loan arrangement or permanent deal.

St James' Park chairman Freddy Shepherd also claimed Robert would not be able to play against the Magpies next season - although the winger is under the impression he can.

Freddy Shepherd

"All I know is I have signed to play for Portsmouth for three years and that means in all games, including those against Newcastle," Robert said on Wednesday.

"It would be stupid if I were stopped from playing against them and I can't believe Portsmouth would be party to that.

"But if Newcastle make any problems, I'll go back and spend the last year of my contract with them."

The first part of Robert's controversial interview saw him claim manager Souness was on course to be fired, and said he was "just a child".

The winger also claimed Newcastle would have won last season's Uefa Cup "if Souness had the intelligence to see what was going on".

That landed him with a fine - even though it is unclear when Newcastle will stop paying Robert and when Portsmouth will start.

Another sanction arrived when, on Wednesday, he suggested Jenas, 22, has a problem with the manager.

"I have seen Jermaine Jenas growing up at Newcastle and he is a brilliant player who could become the new Patrick Vieira.

"But I know just how badly he took to being put on the bench last season."

Robert is a lazy french cunt. I hope he dies.

Fair play for insulting Souness though.
Well she moved in ways
That kept her there in our minds for days
Weeks and months it was
I was that amazed and there she stays
Surrounded by the what-ifs and the maybes

Laurent Robert is a waste of talent, who seems to cause nothing but havoc at clubs, always moaning about something, if he was as consistent on the park as he is off it moaning he would be a great player, the same could be said of a number of players at Newcastle.

Souness ain't a bad guy  :P

But ask the fans who'd they would rather go:

Shearer or Bellamy?

Shearer or Robert?

Shearer said himself that Souness being at the club, & the action that he's been taking on some of the players is one of the major decisions in him playing on

Not a great fan of Bellamy, yeah he did well for Celtic on loan including his performance at Ibrox, but his record in the EPL ain't that great, imo one more season of Shearer is better than 2 from bellamy
