Sly Boogy... does he need better production ??
« on: June 18, 2003, 01:40:51 AM »
Thought I'd make a new topic, not to ruin the other thread..
IMO, he needs better beats, but still he have some dope production on his "Judgement Day"..

My favorites on the CD:

3. California featuring Truth Hurts, Butch Cassidy & Noelle
Produced by Focus

5. Ridiculous featuring Saigon
Produced by Levelz

6. Live At The Wake Up Show Pt. 1 over "Grindin" beat
OG produced by The Neptunes

7. Freestyle #1 over "React" beat
OG produced by Erick Sermon I think..

10. Jackin' 4 Beats
Says produced by King Tech, but it's freestyle over R.Kelly/Jay-Z, Dr.Dre, Just Blaze, Neptunes-beats..

11. Clickclick (Booyaka) featuring Saigon
Produced by DJ Babu

21. Freestyle #3
On the beat from Red Spyda (50 Cent)

One Focus-beat, one Babu beat, and one Levelz beat..
That's the 3 tracks that I liked on this CD from inhouse producers.

I don't think it's without reason that Sly digged out beats from Neptunes, Dr.Dre, Red Spyda, Just Blaze, Erick Sermon, and more..

I would like to see Sly get beats from Alchemist, Fred Wreck, Battlecat, Evidence.. what he got now isn't good enough, imo.

i agree, every beat was bangin. That album doesn't lack production at all. Tech laced sly good and so did Babu. Focus has the illest beat tho. "Ridiculous" is ill. So its "Click Click" which was done by Tech. I  can't complain. Every track is nice on tha album.

Yeah, I agree on that.
Jayo might rip any beat, but he still needs better beats too..
lyrics + beats makes for longevity.

Well Babu is one of the best at the moment IMO, maybe get a couple from him for his next LP. Jake One and Focus are now part of Dre's team so look for them to have improved for his next LP as well. I don't really think King Tech is that good of a producer and wouldn't mind if they never work again together, unless Tech comes up with some real fire. Sly shouldn't work with him just for the sake of working with him. I would like to hear him over some Alchemist, a hard Fredwreck beat & Evidence production as well.

^^No i'm not, i consider them nice, but not good enough to be put on an album if you want a classic. If you want an unremarkable album then, yes, his production is fine. Are you honestly trying to say that a beat made for a radio show on a station played in Cali is gonna be on the same level as a song made for a dope album?

Yea I dont see how you can say he needs better production. I like every single beat on there. Ridiculous, Fucwitdis, One Night Stand, and of course the other tracks that have been around for almost 2 years now like Walk With my Dogs or Fatal Mistake..And Sly himself said this aint a real album, its more of a mixtape album, cause if you think about it, this album was recorded in a time span of 3 years, and thats alot. But wait for the real album on a major label later this year  8)

Naw, he doesn't need better production. I think that he ripped up every beat on Judgement Day. And let's face it, I'm sure that he expected not to sell that much so why pay for some real top notch production?

dunno,...hes a dope rapper and spits some nice shit, but it sounds like he raps too much just OVER the beats, not WITH the beats (if you know what i mean). i would like to see him coming with more flow. the combination of sly´s rapflow and the beats could be better. anyway, hes talented and im looking forward to his next release.
