Payton to 'follow dream' with Lakers  8)



Aaron Goodwin, the agent for Gary Payton, told ESPN's David Aldridge Tuesday afternoon that Payton has chosen to sign a free-agent contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, despite L.A.'s financial limitations.

The Lakers, well over the NBA's $40-plus million salary cap, were limited to offering Payton a starting salary of $4.9 million for next season. It is believed Payton will sign a multi-year deal with the dethroned champions on July 16, the first day teams are permitted to formally sign free agents.

"He could have taken a lot more money to go somewhere else," said Goodwin, referring to efforts by the Portland Trail Blazers to acquired Payton in a sign-and-trade with Milwaukee. "But he's going to Los Angeles to follow his dream."

Mailman and Payton finally get there rings. I said before, Barkley and Ewing should have sign small deals with the Bulls back in the day to get there rings. Harper, Jordan, Pippin, Barkley, Ewing, with Rodman off the bench would be tight. Now Malone and Payton are not making those two guys mistakes. They want rings, and Payton, Bryant, Fox, Malone and O'Neal will be the team the gets Payton and Malone their long awaited rings.

i don't think the lakers need malone i mean kobe/shaq/payton should be enough for a ring maybe they should get pj brown instead

i was probably one of the few lakers fans that "knew" we werent gonna get a championship this year, we needed more support for kobe and shaq

BUT DAMN GETTIN PAYTON IS WHOA!!!!!!

hopefully now we can convince pj brown or karl malone to come on over for the ride

honestly though daygo u gotta admit that we are gonna be a force to be reckon with for a few years if we get payton and somebody else ;D

i only got one question though, what about derek fisher??? will he now be the backup? obviously payton will be the starter


DAMN Y'all this shit is really happening, hopefull all this Kobe rape bullshit is gone by the start of the season and shaq better come in good physical shape to run down the court with payton
ultimately payton picked the best team to go to, portland isnt going nowhere especially with their player conflicts and milwaukee gots to rebuild, Good choice Gary if it comes true of course

wow this is GREAT mother fucking news. i love payton, dude has Defense AND a SNEAKY........i REPEAT, a SNEAKKY OFFENSE, i love the glove. Also him and Shaq are really good friends and have great chemistry . Shaq said that when he was playing with him on the dream team in 96' he had a blast playing with payton, so the chemistry is established there.
