I'm registered at the OutlawRecordz.net forum and there's been a topic about this over there too...

You can't really put The Outlawz in a category, they're not West Coast, they're not East Coast, they're not Down South.
They're just, uhm...The Outlawz.  ;D

Yeah, I know, a lot of peeps ain't feelin' The Lawz because they think they ain't shit without Pac... ::) That's bullshit, period. They still rap about real shit, just like Pac.
Btw...be on the look out for the new Outlawz album on a MAJOR label, they've been negotiating with several labels but they really wanna have the RIGHT deal. And the Bone Thugs N Harmoney & The Outlawz album is also coming soon, the name of the album is Thug Brotherz.

IMO, Tha Outlawz have music to fit the West & the East. Some of their songs have a West Coast feel to them & some of their songs have a East Coast feel to them.

I think that Tha Outlawz have potential, they just need to use their skills right. They sounded good with Pac, so they should be able to sound good without him. Just give them a chance & let's see what they come out with in the future.

I'm looking forward to hearing the Bone Thugs & Outlawz album & I'm also anticipating Napolean's album too.

Me personally, I've alway looked at them as WC even though I know better.  This is a good one, because honestly.. I cant call it.  Some say they fell off when Pac past and in alot of ways, I agree.  Their beats have more of a southern feel to them then they do WC or Easty.

Sometimes, it feels like they're just tryin to pump out songs.. get shit recorded and get shit out.  Quality takes a back seat in this scenario.  No diss to The Lawz cuz I'll always support em, but there's only a few post Pac tracks that really hit me.  "Heart felt G-shit.."  They got the stamp of approval from Pac so you cant help but associate them with The West.  They threw up the "W" with Pac plenty of times!

Outlawz - Breakin The Rules (Thug Lifestyles Comp 2001)
(Synth keyboard sound along with the crash Cymbal is what got me on this track.  You can tell they wrote from the heart too) "Sometimes it hit my mind about dyin tonight.. some nights I just start cryin on sight.."

Outlawz - Hennessey and Weed feat. Da New Dirty
(Love the flute and the piano.  shit just rings..) "Come Put Cha Foot In My Shoes.. Nigga And Walk A Mile.."  <- some real shit.

no because New Jersey is not on the West Coast

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.
