i don't understand Dr Dre

i like his music his beats etc

but i am wondering, he got so much mony why doesnt he just open his own label and release any artists he wants, like rakim, cube, hitman, it seems like he really wanted to work with rakim but the man above told him it's not working out....... or maybe he just thought it wasnt working out?

It's millions of things I don't understand about Dre.

My main things are y does he keep bullshittin and puttin shit off, and y doesn't he find some way to put out a lot more music instead of jus wastin time?

In case you didn't know Aftermath IS Dre's own label. No one's completely in charge of a music label without execs and what not gettin' in they way.

i know that it's his label but it's controlled by interscope, what i meant is something he has full control of

Well...U have 2 understand how a label works before U make these kinda statements...

Aftermath is distributed thru a Major...THAT is why they can get all they albums in evey damm store...If they didn't have a steady distributor behind them, they would not make an impact like this...Then they would be just another independent, like what my label is doin...we do all tha promo, pressin, gettin shit in stores etc, everything is done by us...There is NO WAY in da world someone can just come out and make an impact like Aftermath without a major backing them up...Majors have hundreds if not thousands of people working for their company making sure everything goes as planned...There are ALOT of money being made and tha leaders only make a small percentage which still makes them filthy rich...Shit isn't just black & white, some of yall see it real simple...U think all Dre has 2 do is make an album and boom he presses it and its gonna sell a million in 1 week...soooo much work goes into a single MAJOR album...Interscope pimps Aftermath...Interscope is defenitly 1 of tha most powerful Majors there is...Dre is gettin pimped by them cats but he doesn't mind because no one else will give him deals like this and put him out there like that...

i was just about to say that, universal does the pressing and all that, dre would have to spend much money if he wanted to own his OWN label...printing press and all those goodies

Exactly.  Most dont understand what it takes to run a successful label.  Dre is successful with the music but there are many others who are hella involved at making the business side work too.

Off the Dre subject a bit.. I went out and picked up Obies new album (which is hella tight BTW) and noticed that Eminem must not be fuckin with them Web Entertainment cats anymore cuz I didnt see anything mentioned about them in the credits. Then I saw an AD in the new Murder Dogg for some new artist that Web Entertainment is releasing independantly.  I just assumed that Shady Records production was being handled by these dudes but just listed as Prod By Eminem.  Em must have the same deal with Interscope as Dre does and I was curious about any insight on how Shady Records is being handled by Interscope.  Goes back to the whole discussion about "Own Label."

nah you guys are not reading my post careful..... yea you need a major label to back you up and become successful but my point is that Dre is already rich, and if he really wanted to do an album with rakim or some other album without major distrubutor, yes even if he didnt make as much money, he is already rich, i doubt he needs even more money (but of course everyone in the world wants more lol), so if the money isnt an issue, he can release it independetly just for hardcore fans who would find the album some way or another
